I don't know if this is the case for everyone's copy, but for mine when there's a scene shot with an IMAX camera, it is full screen. Non Imax it jumps back to letterbox with the black bars.
So the movie keeps shifting back and forth. |

thats the way the film was made.
IMAX cameras have a aspect ratio of 1.44:1 (i believe) so for the IMAX scenes they decided to present them in 1.78:1 instead of the normal 2.4:1 the rest of the film was shot in. there is no problem with ur blu-ray, they all switch |

There's nothing wrong with it. It's supposed to be like that. Enjoy!

That's normal the IMAX shots are in a different aspect ratio, all the discs do this. If you look at the back cover of the bluray it will say both aspect ratios at the top in the video specifications area.

I thought it was mostly just annoying. Everytime there was an IMAX shot, it was over almost before I noticed it leaving a split second of 'oh theres an IMAX scene, and now its over'. Only scene long enough was the Lamborghini car scene towards the end..

So annoying that you didn't even notice the other 36 minutes filmed for IMAX, right?

+1 i agree, not everyone knows about the different aspect ratios this movie puts out. If you did not know and were knew to blu ray i could see where it would be kinda freaky

I loved all the IMAX stuff in The Dark Knight. Yeah, sure the aspect ratio switches. However, the full screen stuff makes sense in the context which it is presented. Most of the big aerial shots and certain key dramatic moments were filmed in IMAX just to stress them further.
There's also the added benefit that the IMAX footage was scanned at 8K and yields incredible looking image quality even on Blu-ray. Still, there's nothing quite like seeing the movie projected in IMAX. I'm rooting for Hollywood to react positively to the success of The Dark Knight and rave reviews of the Baraka Blu-ray by filming more movies natively in 65mm large format -either in traditional 5-perf 65mm or 15-perf 65mm IMAX. |
