I'm just saying why couldn't they have done this with Fallout 3? Where's my D/L content for Fallout 3? I wanted to get that for the PS3 but all the graphic issues and no D/L content kept me from doing it.

Theoretically it shouldn't just be Tomb Raider. All developers should strive to make every game for the PS3 1080p and not just settle for 720p.

They spent far more time working on the 360 and PC version of the game.

Sure, entire development cycle to create the game and release it initially then another year to polish it after that for the ps3.

The question then comes in whether or not that extra year of polishing would have benefited the 360 version and my guess is a yes but it's only a guess.

Resolution or not, the TR game is BUGGY! I'm talking...game locking up (same spot, different system/disk), Lara's character model wigging out (arm bending unnaturally during cutscenes randomly, falling through the ground and dying, etc.), and so on. The game is as bad as Angel of Darkness was!
I mean, the game itself (when it was willing to allow itself to be played) was great...but these kinds of bugs should have prevented the Gold.

Yes, over 4 years developing it specifically for the 360's hardware.. Then a port in far less time (less than a year) to the PS3 ( porting to a completely different hardware, not developing for from ground up with the hardware in mind like they did with 360 version ). This was all stated by Bethesda a long time ago.

And yes, they did release patches for the 360 version. Yet the PS3 runs at a much better framerate, draw distance, insanely faster load times, etc.

It's not surprising the best looking games this generation are on the PS3.

The question should be, how would 3 extra years of development towards the PS3's hardware benefited the PS3 version? Instead of porting over a game developed for the 360's hardware for 4 years.

Pointless.

This thread is about the sign of things to come, for PS3.

So stick to that, instead of trying to turn the conversation around.

This is the first time I have heard of this. That is on this game? On both systems or just one?
I will have to look this up before I decide to buy or not.

I am glad I read this as of late I have been waiting to see which system runs the game better. I would like to get this on the PS3 now, if it doesn't have the bugs.

Good point.

I have no idea if it is a sign of things to come nor does anyone else participating.

This could be an isolated incident or perhaps not.

If one owns multiple consoles then they can use this discussion to decide which system they want to buy it on. I can't see the images due to my work filtering them out but from what I gather the ps3 images are superior. It doesn't surprise me that they are superior either, the ps3 is one heck of a machine.

I haven't ran into most of what you're talking about! Sure its kinda buggy at times, but (arm bending unnaturally during cutscenes randomly) & (Falling through the ground and dying), i haven't come across any of that!

During my own playthrough I had trouble with falling through the floor twice in the last level, the game locked up 3 times at 2 different locations, and the Lara model bent unnaturally at the end of level 1. She goes to hold up some binoculars and her arm isn't anywhere NEAR them, and is actually bent backwards at the elbow.
1 friend had the floor trouble but nothing else, and another had more severe freezing and 1 instance of randomly dying and being further into the level when he loaded. All 3 of us had different game disks, and different PS3 models.

I agree..... I've played several games on both consoles and I've yet to come across a game that made me say "WOW... it looks SOOOO much better on this console than the other one." I think the graphics that both consoles are putting out right now are all but equal. Maybe once all that frequently talked about unused potential is actually tapped.... we'll see some major differences.... but IMO.... any differences so far have ranged from very minor to completely unnoticable. Any differences so far have been more due to the developement strategies than any real differences in the capabilities of either console.

I must say that the color difference is NOT related to processing power.. and for that matter it is NOT a color difference. These games simply have different lighting. The Light Levels are clearly very different. The 360 tends to use brighter and more contrasty scenes here, while the PS3 has darker but softer scenes. Honestly the PS3 has more details in the shadows than the 360, which is just brighter. THis is clearly due to the difference in programming between the two, and are not related to processing abilities.
Saying that I will also say that the detail is noticeably better on the PS3. Looking at the last scene, you can see the water effects MUCH sharper on her skin, and the aliasing on the objects is clearly more controlled on the PS3 version.

360:

PS3:

Overall I will say that the PS3 version is superior. You can see more details in the darker parts of the scenes, which just seem to dark at times. But, I think it really does look better on the PS3 based on these screen shots.
The PS3 version appears to be using advanced shaders that are not present in the 360 build. In the shot above, you can see hair shadow detail on Lara in the PS3 version, and it is completely absent in the 360 version. You'll see the same thing if you check out the comparison of shot 2, where Lara is under the canopy of the boat. There's a lot of shadow detail in the PS3 version, while the 360 version appears with no shadows at all. It appears the 360 version is trying to compensate by punching up contrast while crushing blacks.

I don't know if the resolution difference is a sign of things to come, because 360 games typically have good lighting/shadow detail and anti-aliasing. This may speak more about the game engine that Crystal Dynamics is using.

Me neither. I actually like the game alot...or maybe I just like watching the sun reflect off Lara's wet skin

Too bad consoles are not rendering above 720p. Now you know why PC gamers are sometimes not big on consoles. They can game from 1680x1050 to 1920x1080.
There are games running 1080P native...
