Whenever I switch from the Bluray to the cable box, I need to turn the volume way down as a result (and vice versa). The cable box is not connected by HDMI.

Any ideas? Any settings on the TV or on the Bluray player to fix this? Or could I try switching from HDMI over to something else?

Thanks
Turn on "Audio DRC" in Audio Settings of the Blu Ray player. Since you are using TV speakers, select the stereo track on the blu ray/dvd sound menu. If this is not present (like on Criterion Collections), set "Downmix" to "Stereo" in the Audio Settings.

Since you're using the TV speakers, be careful that you don't turn the volume up too high you don't want to damage the speakers. If you can't afford to buy a multi-channel surround system, you may want to consider a soundbar.
