That's good timing. It'll probably win Best Picture, especially since it's a very good but overrated film.

I'm really excited for Australia. It is a great film, and Australia is by far one of the most underrated films of last year.

I am there with you 100 percent. I absolutely LOVED Australia. I will 100 percent pick up Australia day one. Slumdog I might get first day if the price is cheaper than 25 bucks...other than that, I have seen it many many times which can last until I have the urge to see it again...but I will definitely get it eventually.

Australia is the definite day one of that day...hehe trying to ration February lol.

If Australia is that good, I might just get it day one instead of seeing it in theaters because I still have yet to see it but it's still playing at my theaters. The price would be about half the blu-ray anyway

Can't wait for Australia!

Don't know much about Slumdog Millionaire, so I'll give it a rent.

If they release a movie only for critics in theatres and then put on Blu Ray and it sells a 100 copies, does it really exist?

Wow. I watch Indian movies all the time, but i just haven't seen Slumdog Millionare (since i had the fear that it would share the same flopping fate with the other english Indian movies). Now you guys (and many on the Net) are praising it! Now i have to watch this...

I think its underrated also.
Maybe because its a 5 act story (which is usually the death knell for the average Cineplex viewer), maybe because the visual effects are not the best, maybe because its a simple tale that was overhyped. Or maybe because I heard so many bad reviews before I saw it that my expectations were dramatically lowered before I saw it, and hence quite liked it.

Last year No Country For Old Men was released while still in the top 10 box-office, so it's not that unbelievable. Anyways I am way excited for Slumdog Millionaire, it was my favorite this year.

I love Indian cinema (Satyajit Ray through to Bollywoods), and while there are some familiar actors in it, its really a British director (Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Sunshine) filming in the cinematic style of "City of God". So its not really an Indian styled film per se, despite being set around Mumbai.

No movie is just released in theatres for critics...Critics always see films at advanced screenings or by the DVD screeners they are mailed to. All films are released in theatres...you just have to search for them. Many Oscar-y films are released in art house cinemas...

Slumdog Millionaire, however, does have a wide release. It came out on the 21st of December although it was playing at art house cinemas before then. I am also sure since the movie is so hyped and is doing quite well for not a mainstream film...and the many oscar nominations it will get (and might win), the sales will be way up.
