Well, with blu-rays technology and disc space there is NO reason for them to just include one or the other.

IMO, ALL releases with multiple cuts should be just like Close Encounters: You get all versions on the disc and simply pick the one you wish to view after you pop in the disc.

I would prefer both versions but knowing WB we'll only get one.

There's always that "unseen" classic on anyone's list...

As someone that prefers "definitive" releases, I would want both versions available.

On the "version you've never seen before" edition I was REALLY pissed when they edited down the fabulous scene when actress Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn) is on the phone with the operator as she attempts to reach Regan's father in Rome (it's Regan's birthday and he didn't call because "he doesn't give a $hit!").

In the original version of The Exorcist MacNeil emotionally loses her tempter and blasts the operator (lot of cursing) and takes out her anger on her poor innocent assistant. I love that scene - it is absolutely hilarious!!! That's probably why it was removed - it was unintentionally funny. Still, it really should be in the special edition.

I hope we get both versions when the BD comes out (seamless branching please). And I want a spectacular 5.1 surround REMIX in DTS-Master Audio.

Here's your spoiler tag:

[Show spoiler] The Exorcist has been out for more than three decades and it is on television quite often (Monster Channel, AMC etc.). My goodness, by now even Stevie Wonder has "seen" it. At least I didn't quote Regan and say (cleaned up version): "Your mother folds sox in hell!"

I'm only interested in the original but I don't see why they can't give us both and make everyone happy. The spider walk sequence was removed originaly because they felt the shock of it negated the emotional punch of the scene before it . I tend to agree and would rather do without it. I also didn't like some of the new audio effects and music.

I want each cut on its own BD-50 with every extra feature imaginable. I have great fear that Warner will not commit the resources necessary for this all-time movie classic properly.

Another problem that might arise is that Friedkin has been tampering with the picture of his films. The coming French Connection Blu-ray reveals he has tampered with its color balance and other things with deleterious effect.

Good luck with that! Unless we see MAJOR changes in WB's treatment of it's Blu-ray releases, I would keep dreaming. Remember, this is a film from 1973 and it won't require that much restoration in order for people to think it's been done justice, as HD will most likely look obviously superior to any previous home video release. Most people haven't seen the original in theatres for 35 years anyway (and we all remember the whole debacle over The Godfather restoration Blu-rays earlier this year). TVYNS is less than 10 years old and the film was obviously re-done for that, so WB may not even bother restoring that properly in the first place (IF we even get both versions on BD).

Of course, I hope otherwise, and Friedkin's involvement could signal a very good transfer after all, but Warner has continued to dissapoint me with their catalog titles.

I prefer the extended. It was much truer to the book, and setup the friendship that Legion E3 was based on. But I voted both.

Exorcist 3 is a frigging brilliant film. I'd so love to have that on Blu Ray, and it would be fantastic to see the original version of it too.

I saw Exorcist III but never really the second one even though I love Richard Burton... but I remember seeing E III when it was released in theatres I was prob 12 or around that age.

Definitely both versions on one disk with seamless branching! In the case of blu ray, more is defintely more.

I believe the original cut is ultimately the better film... but, then again, the 2000 re-cut features a much-improved and remixed soundtrack.

... Tough decision so I guess including both makes the most sense as fans of both can have what they want.

in my opinion that spider walk is the creepiest moment of the entire movie...so i prefer the version u've never seen. but both cuts would be nice...

speaking of william freidkin...DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BUG? i absolutely loved that movie regaurdless of all the hate and the blu would look unreal (picture some of those scenes inside the hotel room with the walls all covered in tin foil...)

p.s. - YOUR MOTHER SEWS SOCKS THAT SMELL!!!!!!!
