The Casino Royale Blu-Ray that came free when you registered your PS3 came in a slim case, it was way to flimsy. I prefer the thicker cases, but I would say that coming from the UK.

I do prefer the thicker cases, they seems stronger plus they can afford to fit thicker booklets in for like collectors edition stuff etc

You're thinking of a different kind of case then. We're talking about just single title/film cases, not boxed sets. A standard DVD slipcover goes over them exactly, they're just a bit too tall.
