I hope a lot of his collection was free. Even if he somehow paid only $10 per BD that would mean he's spent $10,000 on just movies. WOW!

Also, I used to blind buy a lot of things and had a massive DVD collection but I discovered that I owned a lot of movies that I had no intention of watching again. Derb is now at a point that if he watched one movie from his collection every night, he could almost go 3 years without seeing the same film twice. My guess is that most of that collection has seen it's last days in a BD player.

I, however, am unimpressed. I tend to feel it's ridiculous. But to each his own.

Or his 1,000 owned...

Major congrats!

It's easy for people to put you down, and *****, but a lot of it is jealousy as you surely realize. Each of their collections has titles others would consider "crap" and most likely you are a reviewer who got some of the collection gratis in which case double grats to you. If you paid retail for them all, then it's money better spent than going out to eat for a few minutes of satisfaction. Even watching the movie just once lasts longer, lol, never mind repeated viewings.

A lot of these early titles will go OOP in a few years and be sought after for large amounts of money. There is a lot to be said for buying one of everything, especially the least popular titles as those tend to later command the highest prices. I saw this happen with VHS and again with DVD. People may say it's junk till it's going for $80 and up on eBay and then suddenly they view your collection with new appreciation as it was an investment that paid off. I once had 3700+ DVDs, from reviewing them, in the very early days of DVD. It was 2-3 years before most people got a player and they all thought I was nuts till they finally got on the bus.

Enjoy your collection and your legend status here and laugh at all the haters who will never, ever, catch up.

For the most part I agree with that. There's no possible way to watch all of those more than once on a regular basis. A lot of those that are opened would depreciate in value so much that it wouldn't be worth it "to collect" them just because.

I buy Blus I intend to watch more than once on a regular basis. But in a few years, who is to say that I won't reach a 1,000.

Bottom line: It is his money and he can spend it however he wants.

Having that many BD's is embarrassing. Does he simply buy anything that comes out?

Anyone who puts down another for having too many Blu's is not a true Blu fan!

I say congratulations on reaching 1000 and I look forward to beating you to 2000! Well, at least in my dreams

Is that really a legitimate argument to make when all of the "quality" titles you own are also present in a larger collection?

In this case, quantity can be tacked on without degrading the quality of the top selections. Owning Disaster Movie doesn't make The Dark Knight any less entertaining.

But yeah, I still don't see how someone could justify owning so many. I'm rather open minded, and even my own dream collection would probably be less than 500 (at least, assuming only the titles which are currently available).
