The pictures were leaked from a european source. In europe they are releasing star trek 1-3 in the trilogy box set and then 4 and 6 as individual blu-rays. Missing is star trek 5 for some reason which is not known yet.

The updated info from the digital bits indicates that in the US it will be the 6 set boxset. And they will be the theatrical releases.

Makes no sense 5 is not included. Must be a typo or something.

Would love to have TNG on blu. However after reading some of the posts, that may not be possible?

You all think it's worth it to buy on DVD or hold off a bit and see? I am not a HUGE fan, but I would not mind seeing the series from start to finish. I have only ever seen episodes here and there.

ST the original is just too old for my tastes. I liked it when I was younger, but not now.

Great news! Thanks for the info. Definitely will get the movies and possibly the series (if the price is reasonable).

I really want Trek on blu but I dread seeing what Paramount will charge for them. That's one series I only got a few seasons of on dvd cause of the retarded prices. I expect the series of movies and the season 1 will be around $200 a pop. I hope I'm wrong but Paramount really screws its Trek fans.

I would agree it seems like a typo, but the picture of the box set having the wrod triolgoy on it doesn't seem like it woudl be.

Again since it isn't official and it was leaked ifrom a European source it may jsut be mis-information.

A while back, somewhere on this site, I remember reading a discussion about TNG on Blu-ray. Someone in the know stated that Paramount bid out the project of re-doing the effects shots to production houses with the intent to remaster the series in HD.

Ditto.

Actually, my first thought was the European market was making an editorial decision rather than an economic one. STV is generally the least loved film by the original cast.

as always, the key is resisting the temptation and waiting a little once the
titles are released. I'm a James Bond fanatic and I bought all the last
wave of titles for $19.99 each which came out to $120.00. I could get
all the movies that I bought for $79.00 now from Amazon.

TNG and DS9 are issues.

They were shot on film, but the FX were composed on video. Then the two parts were put on a video master.

So in order to do HD transfers, the film masters would have to be found, and assuming they were complete to start with, remastered, recut AND the FX would have to be fully redone ala TOS.

Not an easy task.

Well with what Paramount is sure to charge when they finally release these, they need to do all this supposed "work" and release TNG in it's epic blu glory! I know I'll be paying through the teeth with many others so it needs to be done!!!

I just hope they have the option of either making us buy them buy series or individually.

And hopefully it will make another sci-fi creator will take notice and consider putting out certain sci-fi film series on blu-ray....unless he doesn't like money.

I may be weird, but I hope for the individual season releases. I like having each box seperate.

Default Here's a good discussion of it actually.

Not sure how true it all is, but it basically meshes with a lot of what I've heard.

Damn, it doesn't look too likely then. I could maybe see them doing that for TNG, but I don't think the demand is there for DS9. My favourite Trek.

Hopefully the films are released separately. I'm really only interested in parts I-III, and maybe the original TV series.

Unfortunately this seems to be the case for a lot of great shows, you track down threads about putting something like Buffy on BD and you'll see the same answer. It stinks, and I would be willing to pay double for a BD of a show like TNG or Buffy with completely new effects if that's what it took to get them on BD. I'd also accept a BD with standard def effects shots, that would work better for Buffy than it would for TNG, would prefer a reduced price in this scenario.

TNG is probably the series with the most demand for this to happen, the flip side being it would also need the most work.

I'm not a trekkie but I'm looking forward to seeing this series on blu-ray--
I hope/bet they look spectacular.

STAR TREK II is definately my favorite and the one I most look forward
to (and it will add to my awesome collection of Summer of 1982 blockbusters
that includes THE THING, THE ROAD WARRIOR, POLTERGEIST, and BLADE
RUNNER-- that was a great summer!)
