Nah it makes no sense to assume the movie will make zero $. Universal is probably betting it will at least break even and I would agree.

+1. I am not a huge Bond fan but like the movies. The character has gotten a bit tiresome over the years. Anyway, I think his explanation on why HE does not like Bond makes perfect sense. He is not slamming those who are Bond fans. Also, don't blame him for being outspoken, blame the press for putting it everywhere. Oh yeah you can blame yourself and your peers since that's who eats the stuff up..

Agreed. My point exactly. But I'm referring to the reactions that suggest actors should keep their mouths shut simply because they are actors.

No, no one suggested he should be thrown in jail or deported. But likewise, Damon (or any other actor) hasn't suggested that he thought he was a deep thinker or any kind of genius, no more than he suggested that he knew more than a guy at the deli.

Oh, I disagree with this part. Many of them do think that. There's evidence of this everywhere. My favorite example being the time Sean Penn flat out stated at the Oscars that actors have a better understanding of the world than anyone else, and received an ovation for it. The smuggness was uncanny. This is the kind of stuff that led to the Film Actors Guild in Team America.

Sorry Ator, I was still editing my post...hence the difference in the part you quoted.

Okay, I agree with the Sean Penn example, but there's a big difference between Damon giving his opinion about the Bond character and Penn flat out saying actors have a better understanding of the world. But I understand what you're saying.

Yeah... He says it like it's a bad thing...

Yeah, and it's kind of a cheat on my part using Penn as an example. He's certainly an extreme case when it comes to this kind of stuff. Great actor though...

Remember that a movie has to make 2.5X it's budget to break even for the studio (world wide box office and home video)

Oh, the power of Matt Damon. He states his personal feelings about a movie character and sends the fanboys into an uproar. AWESOME!

The Bourne Franchise woke up the Bond franchise. Theres no denying that. The Bond movies were repulsive and old, especially after the series of Roger Moore movies and certainly the Bronson's. Goldeneye was decent, but everything after that was so corny and far fetched.

I'm sorry but the Bourne franchise is far more realistic and gritty. Thats what the CIA do to members if they get out of line. They hunt them.

I understand the Bond concept as just being that "spy" characther, but it got old fast, especially with lasers, and over the top gadjets. I do want to say I loved Casino Royale, and have yet to see Quantam of Solace but I feel they're moving in the right direction while staying true to the roots.

I never liked the Bond movies until Quantum of Solace to be honest. I never carewd for bond but I liked the Biourne movies. So Damon doesn't like his Bourne movies or he is not wild about a fourth? That to me is not really clear but he states his movies are better. I am glad he thinks that way, i agree but he did not trash anything and i believe this is the media just trying to stir the pot as usual.

Oh Also his comment on if they support his project you owe them a Bourne film. I dont think that's saying he has no passion for the project, otherwise he wouldn't of done the sequels to the first one. I think hes just saying Universal wants to see another Bourne movie, and due to them supporting his project he'll give them what they want. A fourth Bourne installment. God the way you guys take some of these quotes lol.

thank God the James Bond character DOES stick to his roots and is not gonna be a politically correct hero like Jason Bourne..

there's room enough in the movie world for both without toolshed Damon
insulting the Bond franchise

If I was Universial I would start wondering if he's going to put any effort in the new Bourne movie if he's saying things like that. Wonder how long he's thought that way about the Bourne movies?

Well, he's certainly not going to be making any friends at MGM. Kiss any contract you might have had with those folks goodbye.

Matt Damon is just one of those actors I dislike for some reason, whether it be because of his appearance or mannerisms. This only cements that dislike. I was thinking of buying the Bourne trilogy, but ehh.

The only complaint I have with Damon's statement is that he seemed uninterested in the new Bourne flick.

If he isn't dedicated to the film, then I have no interest in the film. His attitude towards the film will travel into the film.

He can show up and take his paycheck, but he isn't getting any money from me for half-ass performances.

I was on the fence about purchasing the Bourne Trilogy blu-rays today. Damon just blew me right off. Thanks for saving me money, Matt!
