It is time but I doubt that is going to happen in the current political climate. My guess is that we do lose a day of service each week.

There are clerks that have been there for a long tenure almost making 6 figures, I see a problem with that to a degree, however kudos to the employee
yup you're right dang unions. I mean why would everyone want a pay increase every year or so or a real pension instead of relying on social security and not including health care man ! IMO the post office doesn't charge enough. I'm amazed on how much technology is out that we still rely on one of the nations oldest service. If they have to cut a day then go ahead.

Well that's gonna suck!
Not only because I planned my netflix movies to the full extend but also because I usually place orders to arrive on Saturdays via Express or Priority Mail, because no one is ever home during the week.

Possible, but I'd doubt it. From what I understand business mail is the bread and butter of the postal service. I think if there was one day to cut, they'd cut the one where many offices are closed.

Working for the post office i can tell you that there will be 10's of millions of dollars saved on just that one cut day alone.

To kind of put it in perspective i believe that every 0.01 raise in gas prices costs the post office 8 mil. So i think you can see how cutting out a whole day would save a whole lot of dough.

Sure the post office is outdated, and because of this the country will be in a period of transistion, relating to mail, for probably a decade or so. Until then these are the kind of things that will have to happen.

Which is why they are slowly losing business at both ends. Most companies have moved to UPS and Fedex for packaging needs and fast delivery, and individuals now send a lot less correspondence since email and i.m. exist.

I can see them not delivering on Saturdays. Tuesdays, while it may be the slowest day for mail, is the middle of the week. Businesses might have a problem with that.

As for moving from "paper correspondence" to electronic, it's inevitable. The USPS has become a dinosaur to a lot of people. Personally, I avoid using USPS for package delivery whenever possible. I get more reliable delivery times from FedEx and UPS. Personally, I think the USPS should try to move to a "letter only" model, and let the private companies handle packages.
