I'm guessing only those who are already fans of those movies would even expect the cases to be colored.
Well, first off... I'm a designer who works in marketing - so brand-awareness is... well... basically "branded" into my brain. Secondly, EVERY version of LOTR that was released (be it theatrical, extended or limited) on SD all came in R/G/B cases. I just have a feeling they'll keep that same theme.

Interesting...I wonder if it costs more to manufacturer different color cases for releases? Also, in my library (mix of SD/BD) the colored boxes do not really show on my rack with the spine showing. Seems wasteful if you ask me and with the printed paper aspect, you barely really see any color.

On a side note, I wish the actual blu-ray disc was blue.

I don't know for sure, but I imagine they'd be produced in "Short Runs" rather than mass-produced like other cases, so I'd expect the company supplying the cases to charge more.... but if the cost increase isn't that significant, the manufacturer may just eat the cost........ rather than try to nickel-and-dime the studio so they don't lose their business

Different color cases for Blu-ray are a fairly recent thing, and still not widely available. They're slightly more expensive right now due to lack of volume, but that will change in the future. I know there are several companies looking at doing special colors right now

Return and exchange. No cost to you (expect the cost of ink to print return prepaid label).

been having this issue from the start. mostly on discs delivered to me. chipped corners and my beloved firefly disc doesn't shut completely because the bottom clip was already broken before i opened it. so frustrating! i'm not going to go through the hassle of returning these products back to online stores when i preordered to enjoy it asap. now i'm stuck with a faulty disc and there aren't many 3 disc blu ray cases i can easily swap the series into.

Did the broken case jack up one of your Firefly discs? If so I would return that!

I considered doing that
but the chip is about this big
||

and theres the slip case to hide it when its on the shelf
if it were to actually mess up the functionality of the case (opening and closing)
or make it not balance when it was standing on the shelf, i would ship it back.

since its not even a 1 centimeter chip, i'll deal with it.

first order from amazon do ever be messed up even in the slightest
also first to come by USPS instead of UPS (hmmmmmmm!)

LOL Some people just have bum luck. I haven't had any problem with the cases elite or otherwise. The only problem that I have encountered is that some companies use shrink wrap and the heating process sometimes melts the insert sleeve into a wave pattern. The preferred method of packaging is the clear film ...the one with folded corners. In the UK I like how the film has a pull tab to easily remove the packaging material from the Blu-ray.

There is a company that supplies the elite cases with logo and I think they can be found with a bit of search effort.

They chip just as easily as DVD cases.

I'm getting kind of peeved by how easily the cover artwork ripples/bends/folds inside the plastic covers, sometimes within minutes of removing the shrinkwrap. This appears to be a common problem with the new-style Elite cases.

It normally starts about an inch from the left on the front cover, top and bottom, and then spreads, or not, depending on the quality of the paper used.

Really makes these things look cheap.

I thought just the extended editions were in coloured cases.

edit: Can't really find any images to back this up.

I totally know what you mean. I've had that happen to a few BDs, it makes them look like they've been soaked in water or something. Rather an annoyance.

I do not have the extended versions, just the 3 regular theater version on DVD and they are indeed colored as the OP posted.

picked up Dexter S1 last night and didn't realize until I opened up the packaging that the botton corner was chipped and a piece broke off. So now I have a ghetto looking case for Dexter =/ I learned my lesson
