The way I see it is, you aren't saving money...you are instead adding 8$ to the cost of the eventual Blu-Ray purchase you will make when it's released better or when your HD player dies.

If it's a movie you don't care enough about to rebuy, then why are you buying it now?

Either way you blew 8$ on nothing.

My HD DVD player will remain hooked up until it dies so if I see a movie much cheaper on HD DVD then I will buy it on that format. I'm all about saving a few pennies now.

This scenario isn't likely since I bought pretty much what I wanted before the format went away that I doubt I'll be faced with this but if I was, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Agreed.... when hd-dvd died..... I got a bunch of great movies for $3-10 each. I even got an extra player for $25 just to make sure I'd always have access to my collection. I haven't gone looking to see if anyone still has any great hd-dvd deals in a long time though.

I don't buy them anymore. Stopped in late 2007. I still see them around for sale here, especially at Sears for some reason.

I havent bought any but Ive been amazed at how costly they are at places like FYE etc. I was there today and HD DVDs were going for $15 or so. Granted its FYE and everything is expensive but at the price i doubt they will ever unload their stock.

My question is, what if it doesn't break down for 5-10 years when HD-DVD has become EXTREMELY obsolete?

I mean I've heard of cases of people hoarding them NOW, let alone when their primary one's start to break down.

It's like telling someone that a certain brand of you-know-what is only available in a sponge, and they start hording them.

That would be a "no" since I don't have an HD DVD player.

I never had and never really planned on it. But as cheap as the HD-DVD adapter is for the XBOX 360, I'm actually considering getting it, just for the hell of it, and cause there's about 3-4 titles I'm interested in on HD-DVD.

what happens when your hd dvd player dies in 2-3 years? Those people will be SOL. Sure there will be used models on ebay (and other places) but i would consider those high risk items.

IMO the format is dead for a reason, so we should just keep it that way.

I have an extra one still sealed in the box. HD-DVD is dead... they aren't making any more..... but there are still some great deals to be had on movies. If I can get a classic for four bucks..... it's worth is IMO.

Buy Combos and keep your pot ready to boil 'em for a regular DVD Player?

Isn't there a Super-Blu combo player that is both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray compatible?

I've seen some HD-DVDs used at Suncoast for $11 used. Most all the Warner Bros. titles that are Combo discs with HD on one side and DVD on the other. I was considering getting THE BRAVE ONE with Jodie Foster since I haven't seen it but then I'd only be able to watch it on the DVD side.

Not saying anything against HD DVD, but just go to Amazon and get it on Blu-ray for $11.21.

I didn't get it because it didn't appeal to me. Maybe if the local library has it, I'll check it out.

The way I see it is, one day your HD-DVD player will stop working and chances are you won't be able to fix it because players aren't manufactured anymore and parts will be non existant eventually, so therefore paying an extra $15 or $20 for the blu-ray disc will safe guard you in the next phase of life, when the next technology is brought forward and it's compatible with all dominant past disc formats such as CD,DVD & blu-ray etc.

buying the HD-DVD disc will hurt you slightly in the long run, they aren't as protective as blu-ray discs and the players are phased out, one day they might not be able to be played ever again, unless you have multiple HD-DVD players lying around.

that's my rant anyway
