He was, and I'd imagine the job will be his to lose, unless they sign a veteran to push him in training camp (Byron Leftwich, Derek Anderson, Jeff Garcia if he doesn't resign with Tampa Bay.)

The problem with Clemens at QB is that they're pretty much a win now team - most of their top players with the exception of Revis, Nick Mangold & Leon Washington are either already at their prime or are just about ready to decline.

hopefully its for good this time, it was pretty obvious his career was done when the jets picked him up, not that im hating on the jets, but just the fact that the packers wanted nothing to do with him when he came back even though he pretty much WAS the packers for years and years and years

it was time for a change. and judging rodgers performance this last year, it was the right time for that change.

Just saw this on ESPN and they also said the Packers are gonna draft USC qb Mark Sanchez. Sure wish Favre would have gotten to go to the Vikings or Bears, oh well.

whoever said that doesn't know a whole their @$$ from a hole in the ground.

we've got 2 college standouts as backups and a new defense being implemented. our primary need is gonna be a defensive starter for our new 3-4 def. or an Off. lineman.

FWIW - Favre haters need to recognize that he can still play this game at a nearly elite level, if not at a "way better than average" level.

He was #11 in passing yards (with those craptastic receivers), #9 in TD passes (again, with some mediocre hands catching those lasers), and #5 in percentage of passes caught. How he accrued those stats this season with his corps is nothing short of outstanding. As with any gunslinger type QB, you're going to have to take the good with the bad. In Favre's case, the INTs probably frustrate a lot of people, but he's still a top-notch QB, and a hell of a better option than just about any NFL QB right now with the exception of the absolute best -- i.e. the ones that are in their primes (and who quite un-coincidentally have the best receivers as well).

I'm Packer fan and I don't care if he don't retire with the Green Bay jersey.

It's the Jets that ESPN predicts will draft Sanchez at 17, but I doubt he'll last that long. Other teams need help ahead of them.

I'm sorry, but those stats you've described don't make him a top-notch quarterback, not when you lead the league in interceptions, are in the top 10 in sacks, and average less yards per attempt than David Garrard (you think the Jets receivers are bad? try the Jags on for size) or Shaun Hill. And the fact is he absolutely crapped the bed down the stretch.

I'm not a Favre hater, and I think he had a historic career, but he clearly didn't have it anymore.

Agreed, I don't think he goes lower than #10 to San Fran. If the 9ers don't take him though, he would likely be around for the Jets at 17. None of the other 6 in front of them need a QB, at least not enough to use a 1st rounder on one.

I'm a 49ers fan and I'm not sure that is what they really need so I do think he'll be around. I like what Hill did last year and think with a full season and the same receiving core all year he could do a lot. Most project them to take a LB.

Favre said his reason isn't he doesn't feel he can play at the same elite level so that's why he is leaving. I really liked him while he played.

I agree that "top-notch" may have been a bit of an overstatement, but I'd still stand behind my original argument that he's a better option than many/most QBs out there.

I'm also not a Favre hater or lover; I just think people (not necessarily you) like to bandwagon the whole topic of how he's "done." He can still play, is all I'm saying.

I hear what you're saying, and I agree he is better than some starters currently in the league, but certainly he's not what he once was. "Done" is a subjective term, but his days as a true franchise QB for a successful team are behind him.

Like I said, I'm not a hater (I'm a Giants fan), but I think he came back this year for the wrong reasons. He took his sweet time to tell the Packers on more than one occasion he wasn't going to come back, then once they started moving forward with Aaron Rodgers he acted like a bitter ex-girlfriend who sees her ex out with someone new and goes out of her way to make him jealous.

I'd rather hear about this rather than A-Rod and his steroids.
