I think we should continue to see 3rd party support because the gap won't be big enough for devs to completely ignore the PS3. US, the PS3 will for sure be in 3rd place. During the first year in the US, the fact the 360 was going to eventually have Halo 3 was enough to bring people from the Original Xbox over (which did ok in America).

In PAL regions, PS3 could definitely pull off second place as soon as the price goes down 100 Euro and GT5 gets up to speed. I'm sure it's neck and neck there at the current pricing scheme. In Japan, PS3 is definitely locked into 2nd.

Well the comparison with adoption with the 360 and the XBox is awkward. Because MS did a cold-drop on the old XBox support. The store I worked at at the time had no new XBox units since before 3 monthes of the 360 launch.

And you would be really hard pressed to find a Box in the stores at all since the 360 launched. It's a different beast of comparison there. Perhaps it did work out for the better for them, but well time will tell.

More proof if need be that it's a social game, akin to a karaoke machine or a Scene it Board game, rather than a console imo.

Or Buzz. Or Rockband.

Just to be fair, since multitap/4 player options, all the consoles have to an extent been about social games.

More so when you introduce the network jump in the past generation.

Seems clear the only thing holding back the PS3 is a price cut. At this point, still no reason for them to divert from their rumored Spring plan.

Exactly (except for the part about it not being a console...... of course it's a console.) Ninentendo has carved out a whole new niche and managed to penetrate it very successfully. Kudos to them.

Yeah
One can only fear that if they also start to actually release a lot of real good SP/MP games (that do not aim to be "social" or casual), then MS and Sony will be in -deep- trouble

I wouldn't worry about it. Sony had insane market share last gen.... and they didn't manage to kill off Nintendo and MS.

If they did that then they wouldn't have the market share they do now

Didn't work out for the GC so they tried something different and now we have the wii.

Yep, and the wii appeals to a compleatly different market. non gamers. yea im sure regular gamers buy the wii also, but i think all those sales come from a new crowd. the wii doesn't effect the PS3/360 and vice versa.
