Default Should I buy this from Circuit City?

I found this open box (test unit) at Circuit City yesterday for $250, looks like a descent deal for open box, what do you guys think?

There's not a lot of love here for Bose products. Price-wise, that's not a bad deal. But with that setup you're going to have audio holes and a weaker overall sound as compared to a comparable separates setup. Another thing to consider is that there's no upgrading built in to that product and you can't get lossless audio with it.

Even with all that against it, $250 is a pretty tempting price for someone who's possibly just using TV speakers.

It's that or a Polk RM6750. I think getting the Bose would be the best idea (huge resale value).

Yep I buy it and sell it for a profit, use the money to start buying some good products.

Nah, Bose are OK. Just OK. Definate Upgrade over TV speakers. Just remember if you go to upgrade in the future, you'll have to buy all new equipment, since Bose products are all proprietary(sp?). They all set-up like HTiB systems (at least all of the one I've seen).

yeah id do the same just sell it on ebay or something... I'd rather spend a tad more and get the same if not in most cases better sound and be able to have lossless if I wanted.

stay away from bose

I was gonna say the same thing, looks like they have a MSRP of almost a grand. I would sell it and use the profit to buy something a little cooler.

It often bogels my mind how some people just LOVE Bose. They don't care that you can often get a better, albiet bigger speakerwise, system for roughly the same price. Bose are decent speakers...just not for the price they are at.

Isnt' that kind of the point of Bose, though? I mean aren't you paying for the novelty of those itty bitty speakers?

I bought a set a set of bookshelf speakers c. 1994 and they cost $460 (funny, the still sold the same model speakers for $200, 3 years ago) and I'd never go back again myself for standard size unit but for the novelty of that tiny setup, wouldn't you say it's worth it for some people?

Just sayin' is all.

No. There are significantly better speakers that are even smaller than Bose gem and cube speakers that cost around the same or much less. There is no reason to justify spending $4000 on a system just because they are small.

Default $250 for 5.1?

Here's my idea if you want to spend $250:

Fronts:
Sony SS-F5000

Surrounds/Center:
SS-CR3000

True, this wouldn't include a subwoofer, but seeing as the Bose bass module won't go much below 50Hz, and the floorstanders I gave you above are +/- 3dB down to 45Hz, you'd actually be getting more bass this way. This is $260, and that's if you pay full retail. Sony speakers are almost always included in BestBuy's 10%, 15%, and 20% off speakers sales. Which could allow you to step up in the floorstanding lineup, or perhaps get the better center channel. This isn't the best setup, but it'll beat the hell out of the Bose.

Unless you intend to sell this for a prophet i would avoid this system at all cost. Bose is a big waste of money and all you get is crap. You can buy better speakers from radio shack for $100.

I'm pretty sure he knows that it wouldn't be such a good idea to buy and use. It would be a much better idea to sell it online for nearly 4x the cost and buy a superior system. No need for bashing. We have threads for that already. If anything, link him to the official Bose bashing threads we have here. No extra comments needed. BUY IT.
