Where does it say that a classic only occurs after 20-25 years? Have you ever heard of instant classic? Just Heath Ledger's performance alone will make it a instant classic. Lets be honest, until TDK came out Iron Man, Spiderman 2 and X men 2 was the standard in comic book movies, not any longer and it kills the Marvel fanboys. They will do or say anything to justify themselves and not give TDK it's props.

Batman Begins is just as good as TDK, SM2, X2, and Iron Man. Without Batman Begins, there is no TDK. Ledger's performance is a classic, but beyond that I'd say the movie is no more of a classic than the movies you've listed in your post (as well as Batman Begins). It's a summer action movie that didn't bring anything new to storytelling for cinema, so I think labeling it "classic" is premature.

yea i know you said that(and i agree with u) i was just aggreeing that Without Batman Begins there would be no The Dark Knight, so Batman Begins would have to be a classic as well

Bingo. We have a winner, and this is Batfan saying this {with a Heath Ledger icon no less}

to the other poster, I'm not a Marvel fanboy, I just don't think that TDK added any more than any other comic movie.

And I also think that BB was better than TDK, BB was consistent in it's writing the whole way through, it didn't just leave one enemy hanging and do a disservice to the other by giving him a secondary role.

Batman Begins is good enough that a valid argument can be made for it being a better movie than TDK. I think BB has better editing and storytelling while TDK features a faster pace and better acting with an incredibly memorable performance from Ledger. Batman Begins is a better Batman movie though because it focuses exclusively on Batman for a vast majority of its running time. In fact it's the ONLY Batman movie so far to be that dedicated to developing the main character.

There are problems with Batman Begins' writing. The dialogue is a lot worse than TDK's. Count the number of times the word "fear" is used and you could kill yourself in a drinking game. The other problem with Batman Begins is the cliched action climax, which TDK also collapsed into. Get rid of the SWAT/ferry boat scenes and I would say TDK is hands down a better movie than BB. Batman Begins' storytelling style (with the flashbacks and such) is better than TDK's and I think the editing of TDK is a bit too chaotic, though it does create a pretty impressive pace. BB has a lot smoother editing style. And like I said in another post, it's the only Batman movie so far to focus heavily on developing Bruce Wayne/Batman instead of having him part of an ensemble with a bunch of other characters. Nolan deserves a lot of credit for doing that with BB when it was neglected in the previous franchise and in TDK.

BTW jadedeath,

I disagree with the notion that leaving the Joker hanging was a bad idea. It was much better than killing him off like in the first Batman movie. The Joker should NEVER die, so I was glad that they didn't kill him off. I would also argue that the Scarecrow was both turned into a secondary villain in BB and left hanging at the end of that movie. The way he was defeated by Rachel Dawes with the taser gun was annoying as hell.

Sounds like a fun drinking game. *LOL*

That pretty much narrows down why I feel that BB is a better movie, TDK the end just drops out and you're left with a bad taste of 'this is the hype I've been hearing about for weeks is all about...?' {I saw it a little later than everyone else I'll admit it}

I didn't mean it in regard to killing him off.

I meant it in regards to... what happens with the character? Does he end up in Arkham? Does he escape? There's no closure there for that particular movie.

The entire movie switches to Two-face at that point and apparently everyone forgets that the Joker exists for the next 10 minutes.

The Dark Knight, but Iron Man was a great movie as well, I just think TDK is the superior film

Well Batman Begins falls apart just as much. The microwave emitter is annoying as hell. Can't stand that plot device, just like I can't stand the ferry boat/SWAT scenes in TDK (roughly 15 minutes that should have been chopped out of it). I will say that they at least sort of moved to a better climax in TDK with the scene involving Gordon, Two-Face, and Batman. It was intimate. That is the kind of climax that should have been in BB and should have been all by itself in TDK, rather than a co-climax next to the SWAT/ferry boat scenes. But they've got to have a big action climax apparently or it's not appealing enough to average moviegoers. The scene with Gordon, Two-Face, and Batman was incredible. Great acting. It's a shame it had to follow the messy action sequences that preceded it.

I assume he gets locked up in Arkham. Batman always leaves criminals hanging for the cops in the comic books and Animated Series. The Joker isn't going to pull a miraculous escape from that without killing himself by falling.

I think I would have preferred to see the ferry boats blow themselves up in another traumatic sequence like the one that takes out Rachael. I don't know if it could have worked or not but it would have made that whole sequence a lot more memorable (it's the weakest part of TDK for me).
