I'll be adding Mystic River and The Green Mile to my Blu-ray library. Anyone know the release strategy for The West Wing? I'm hoping for a full series set.

wasn't there some issue of the framing (incorrect aspect ratio ?) of the film, I assume this will be corrected for the bluray.

Caddyshack, Excalibur, Forbidden Planet, and Mutiny On The Bounty are an absolute must for me!

Well if Cruising, The Green Mile and Mystic River were released on Blu they'd be day 1 buys for me.

I would very much like to have a few of these, but this is Warner. Getting lossless audio from them is apparently a big coup.

Universal have been rooting for Blu-ray to fall up until a year ago, and now they put out optimized encodes and U-control and DTS-HD MA on every title. With Warner, we're lucky to get lossless audio alongside the old HD DVD video encode.

And this is not something I actually want to support, however much I really do want at least 3 or 4 of those movies. I'll either wait for a sale price, or skip them altogether.

The Green Mile Special Edition

Somebody went to HighDefDigest.com I see!

Correct! They were rumored to be released on Blu-ray/HD DVD, but never were.

WB has used the exact same encodes for their "catch-up" titles, with the exception of "The Perfect Storm", so no, there is no noticeable difference on Blu-ray.

HOWEVER, when you sell your HD DVDs and HD DVD player, the Blu-ray versions look a LOT more interesting!

Also, I'm not sure if I understand Bill right, but is he saying that "Forbidden Planet" (and all the catch-up titles) will get an upgrade from the 5.1 Dolby Digital Plus soundtrack on HD DVD to 5.1 Dolby TrueHD on Blu-ray... or is he just referring to a few of them?

Sounds like they will all be lossless from now on.

I would too. However, I watched Willy Wonka on HD DVD a couple of years back and wasn't that impressed with it. I wish Warner would give this title important treatment, but I suspect it will just be a port.

I want both Chocolate Factory movies (only ones I've seen), CaddyShack, and Forbidden Planet. Kudos for Warner hearing us and giving loseless audio.

Grand Prix is a pretty entertaining film. If I didn't have the HD-DVD version, for sure on that one (haven't cracked the HD-DVD open, yet, but the DVD was excellent).

Excalibur might be worthwhile, never got around to that one on HD-DVD (it apparently had a problem or two, as I vaguely recall).

So, maybe/probably Excalibur.

Haven't done too much in the way of HD double dipping all told. (A lot of it having to do with identical video, and HD-DVD usually having better audio; or getting them much more cheaply when they were fire-sale-ing them, and the audio might have been the same.)

Always interested in old titles done well, so a couple of the others mentioned that haven't been HD-ed will also be welcome. Maybe Contact, North by Northwest, Maltese Falcon. [If they put them in super-duper deluxe packaging and charge 40 bucks a pop though, ferget it.]

and for a 65mm to video transfer - it was a reference hidef release. Along side 'Mutiny on the Bounty' and "Hamlet' (1996) - films like these were meant to be experienced in the best possible way.

Great news. I was just about to buy the HD-DVD adapter for my XBOX 360 for a couple of those titles. Now I will wait!

First Post here. Love your forum. Lots of fun reading.

I think I'll pass on this crop of new releases. I would love to see the original Poseidon Adventure on Blu Ray. I love that movie and I was just thinking about it. The remake had some nice FX but the acting was

Not the Ultimate Collector's Set in the nice metal case. It's only on DVD right now but I guarantee this will be a day one pick up for me and probably a lot of people on here. There's a lot in this set that would have to be transferred though.

Superman (already on BD)
Superman 2
Superman 2: The Richard Donner Cut (already on BD)
Superman 3
Superman 4
Superman Returns (hopefully it will be the second BD release)

The Forbidden Planet & Mutiny on the Bounty (I am assuming this is the version with Marlon Brando). Gotta have them!
