Thanks so much man, yeah I heard there were a few real close to where I live at one time. Now I think one is a Driving Range, and the other a mall. |

My local drive-in got torn down for an apartment complex. I think it's days were done regardless. They hadn't done any repairs or renovations in my lifetime and it definitely showed. There were weeds all over the place, the bathrooms were almost unusable, and the speakers really sucked. Still was a fun place to go get drunk without being harassed. My last movies I saw in the drive-in was Austin Powers 2 and South Park Bigger Longer Uncut.

I think it would be cool to open up a drive in theatre. It would have to be one hell of a setup though to enjoy the quality of the movies though which can cost alot of $$$ in that area. It would also be to competetive out there. With IMAX, Home Threatres and Regular Theatres, I don't think Drive - In would last in my opinion. I personally wouldn't go though even if they did open one near my area because i have my own dedicated threatre at home now. People these days just feel alot safer staying home and watching Movies there. Less $$$ involved.

I had one 10 minutes away from my house........ until last summer.... now it's gone.
My wife and I went once.... Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, and War of the Worlds was on......... Two TERRIBLE remakes..... but the "experience" of it is pretty cool I guess. I'm 30, and when I was a kid (10-14 or so) I went to the drive-in movies with friends/family quite a few times..... there were two near our home-town, now neither one is in existence (at least that's what I hear) |

Here is the one i've been going to since I was about 5 http://www.starlitedriveinohio.com/photos.html. Its still in pretty good shape the owners are nice people. Admission is only 7 bucks for two movies back to back beats going to the regular theater anyday. It has FM radio for sound so the sound isn't bad especially with my two 8" subs in the trunk.

I lived on Long Island for the first 15 years of my life. The fist Drive-In I experienced was when my family went on vacation to Las Vegas (where I now live). We had family out here and my cousin took me and my sister to the Drive-In. We saw The 6th Sense and then Inspector Gadget. I fell asleep on Inspector Gadget. I was like 14 and I thought it was awesome. My cousin had a good sound system though and the audio went through a radio station he had to tune into. We basically sat in the bed of his truck with blankets and pillows with a cooler full of soda. Haven't been back there since I moved here, it's a little bit of a drive. But this thread makes me wanna go back.

I am 43 years old, and have fond memories of going to the drive-in when I was a kid. One time they were having a Planet of the Apes triple feature, and during the intermission (close to Thanksgiving) they were throwing live turkeys off the roof of the snack bar as a promotion.
I was smaller, and faster than some of the adults, and I tackled one. I took him home, and put him in the pen with our chickens. ![]() I would love to go to another one, but sadly none exist where I live now. |

Anyone looking for a drive-in near their location can check this page.
Though I don't go very often, I love the distinctly American nature of the drive-in. They originated in the U.S. in the 1930s and came to prominence here in the 1950s and are, I believe, a natural outgrowth of the American love for automobiles. If you never have been to one, you should definitely go just so you can experience a fading piece of Americana. I recommend a drive-in for very cheesy fare, especially exploitation movies (Grindhouse was an awesome show at the drive-in). |

I went to one about 2 hours from me back when I was about 12 years old... geez that was over 13 years ago now.
![]() The people talking trash about Drive-in movies must not have girlfriends. There were so many people back in the 50's-60's that would go pick up their date and take them to a movie because they could make-out without their parents around. Back then people were different... little kids didn't go to the Drive-ins at night and people didn't go around getting drunk and destroying things. The world has gone to crap since then and nobody respects anything or anyone now. But I'm getting off subject - The Drive-in Movies now just don't do what they did in the 50's. People have more options of where to go on dates and parents are more lax about PDA (Public Displays of Affection) so the kids don't have to sneak off to a movie just to get some make-out time. Still, if you've got a loved one and there is a Drive-in Movie place near you... give it a chance. Maybe rent a convertible if you don't own one, let the top down and climb into the back seat and cuddle under the stars (maybe take a light blanket). |
