Default Bring Back- "The Drive-In Theather"

I have never had the pleasure of attending a Drive-In Movie. I'm a 33 year old man from Long Island New York, with not a Drive-In Theather in sight. I'm sure I could drive out to the middle of nowhere and find one among the sticks somewhere, but is it worth it?

Name your movie/movies that you have seen at the Drive-in, and tell us all...Is it overrated or worth the price of admission?

They still exist and if you could find one then you should go. They are a dime a dozen now, but they are timeless IMO.

There's one like 10 minutes form my house. Cheap and a cool thing to do it you get bored.

Things to consider:

Some people are stupid and leave headlights on when they drive to the ramp.

They tend to have lots of children running around.

The food is subpar. Bring your own.

You can watch all the movies playing if you time it correctly.

Crazy how there are overpowered by multiplexs where I live, thanks for all your info. I think what I want most in the "alone time" with my fiancee! Romantic in a 50's kind of way.

With the advancement of Home Theater, why in the world would you want to sit in a car and watch a movie?

I've been to the drive-in, late 70's, early 80's and I always thought it was lame back then. And I was a wee kid no less!

There is no good reason to bring it back and no good could come of it.

I'm not sure you understand what "a dime a dozen" means.
it means something is "very common" or easily accessible

yep we also got 1 about 15 minutes from me, and i live in the city, all though it isn't exactly a huge one. get to see two movies for one ticket though and is cool to do once in a while! but then you need to upgrade your car audio, and chew out the projectionist when he's slacking

Well as your opinion I'll value it, but to some it is a cherished past time that reminds us of a sweeter time. I want to experience it for myself and see if it is memorable to me. Yes of course times have changed, but there is always a reason to "go back" IMO.

we had a few around here but I believe they all went out because people just didn't attend much. They were ok to go to. The sound sucked but it was something fun to do when growing up. We watched quite a few when we were kids. The apple Dumpling Gang. Invasion of the Body Snatchers. I like my own home theater much better now

I believe that all movie theaters will eventually be like the ol' drive in,a relic of the past, like the tube television!!! Be honest what you rather do,buy a Blu Ray and watch comfortably with awesome homemade concessions or deal w/ pricey tickets, screaming brats, rude patrons, and overly priced stale popcorn and watered down soda! I do got to admit,Drive-In's were cool!!!

The last one in my area closed around 10 years ago. I loved going to the drive-in as a kid. You'd get to see 2-3 movies, bring your own food, and hang out with a bunch of friends. Sure, the speakers sucked, although there was a thing you could clip to your antenna so you could listen in your car. I saw all 4 of the "original" Batman movies at the drive-in. I remember Batman Returns came out on my 10th birthday and we had my birthday party at the drive-in.

Of course I get the sentimental and emotional aspect. That's all it is at this point. That "sweeter" time is subjective. Money didn't come easy in the 50's and it was a great place for teens to gather, make out and for some, get laid. Lot's of kids were probably conceived in a car, at the drive-in. LOL.

But hey, if sitting in a car at a drive-in puts a smile on your face, then all the more power to you.

I am 49 and grew up going to the drive-ins. We rarely, RARELY, watched the movie.

I get what your saying and agree to some extent. But for the select few "me" who have never experienced it, whatever the experience would be viewing a movie at the Drive-In for the first time would be worth it IMO. But for people who live near on and have been several times I can see how the novelty has worn off. This is something that is on my "Bucket List" for my first time I would like to find one that comes highly praised. Does anyone, anywhere have a pristine (or as close as possible) Drive-In near them? And could you tell me the location or name? Thanks in advance!

The whole Drive-In thing is more a thing of people having good memories while watching movies there.

There certainly isn't anything convinient anymore about them since Home Theater can easily kick its butt, but anybody who went during its heyday can tell you:

1. In what other movie theater could you consume alcohol? (You brought your own, but you'd get kicked out of a regular theater for that.)

2. Even though there are other people there, you were still in the privacy of your car. Your own little private viewing booth.

3. Sure, you could make out in the regular theater, but how far could you go? To get beyond first base: Drive-In.

4. 3(sometimes 4) for the price of one: How many of you went in with 2 or 3 three friends in the trunk?

Great memories all. I could go on but I'm sure you guys can help. LOL

PS: There are no more Drive-Ins in Puerto Rico. Where I live.

With todays technology couldn't they "update" the Drive-In experience? Using better tech might revive it?

i remember when i was a kid i use 2 go 2 one in the bay area.

i saw the jurassic park: the lost world & bound by honor blood in blood out..

some of the films i cant remember rite now since i was pretty young..

well the area that was the drive n theater they built a century 25 theater, wal-mart, best buy, borders and a shit load of restaurants..

i guess thats y they dont have drive ins anymore cuz corporations buy the land and build on it.. makes sense.

I don't know about pristine, but a number of Drive-Ins are still open with in a couple of hours of Long Island, either in New York or New Jersey. Do a web search and you will find them.

Get out and go to one.

Actually Long Island used to have a bunch of Drive-Ins, but those days are long gone.

you know what would be great; a drive in that served food and alcohol with waitresses like Sonic has.
