The only reason you would not consider plasma (aside from wanting to use it as a computer monitor) is if your viewing room has lots of direct sunlight shining on the screen. If that's the case (and you watch a lot of TV during the day), then I'd recommend LCD. Other than that, go plasma without hesitation. You can pick up Kuros for pretty good deals these days. I've seen the 6020's going for $3-3.5K. Next, look at the Pany 58" 800U for ~$2K, or wait until the new V/Z models come out later this year. For a good receiver, look at Onkyo, Yamaha or Pioneer (good, solid choices for the price).
I was just thinking the same thing.

Just like you said, the Panasonic and Pioneer sets are the top dogs. It's pretty tough to find an owner that isn't happy with those sets. Personally, i'd go for the 6020 without hesitation. Then i'd put some hours on it, get it calibrated, and invite my friends over to bask in my plasmas glory!

I would say the Panasonic 58" plasma, the TH58PZ800U, it can be found around $3k. That leaves us upto $1500 for a receiver, I would go with the Denon AVR3808, Pioneer Elite SC-05, or Onkyo TXSR876.

Where are you buying your TV's? You can get these for $2K from several online retailers. Good choice, though!

Definitely, nothing is quite the same after standing in front of a 58" plasma.

Interesting observation. The answer is because IMO Plasma owners seem to always and constantly continue to defend, boost and brag about their buying decision and LCD owners don't have to. We are just enjoying our TV rather than annoyingly talking about it.

OLED's, particularly of a large size, are years away and their first few runs will most likely be very expensive and have numerous bugs to work out. LCD's and plasmas are on mature generations at this point and many of the costs and bugs of the original technology has been sorted.
One step ahead of you buddy! Got 2,000 in the bank.

People who have been posting on AV forums for years won't agree with your assesment.

I have 2 LCDs, and a DLP projector....... I say... if you can't do a projector, or if this is your main t.v.....

GO WITH PLASMA....... A lot of good suggestions on individual models have been given already.

Good luck/congrats..... whatever one applies

I'd be more than happy to tell you about the crappy "Gray Levels" of my Aquos..... Plasmas offer a better picture (as a generalization of course) in my opinion....... I walk down the aisle at best-buy and it's pretty easy to see what ones are Plasmas.... and what ones are LCD

The viewing angles are pretty awful on LEDs from what I have seen.

that is the reason I posted this because I have been posting on many AV forums for years since 2004. Don't take it so seriously, it was just my funny observation and I belong to 3 AV forums. Plus, it was years ago that plasma had the worse reputation of burn-in, heat, heavy, dim, low life panels and room reflections.

I don't have time to fanboy my chosen format - I just spend my time enjoying it. Plus if someone is going to spend top dollar on a set it is usually high end exotic stuff, like Kuro, that is recommended. No one would recommend a Honda or Hyundai to a guy asking for advise on which car to buy and his budget was $200k.

A man needs variety, sometimes LCD's are best, sometimes Plasma's are. They both have their strengths and weakness.
