I believe that is the case...at least that what I read in an interview with one of the Fox Execs last year.

I thought Avengers would get moved but a only like a few weeks back or forward so as to move away from Harry Potter that summer.

So Thor and Captain America are being released in the span of one month? If Thor tanks that could badly hurt Cap's movie. Marvel will soon be giving movies out to third-stringers like the Wasp.

This movie will make half of what the Dark Knight did. Too many characters. It will be as good as the X-Men movie but nothing spectacular.

The Dark Knight's final box office total will be greater than that of The Avengers. For everybody who saw The Dark Knight because it deviated from the standard "comic book movie", will be somebody who faults The Avengers solely for being a standard "comic book movie".

Or I'll be eating my words, we'll see, that's my best guess. Despite RDJ and everything, Iron Man was a tough sell to somebody compared to The Dark Knight. Although piracy will continue to get worse, inflation will help bump up the numbers slightly.

Somebody pointed out how Captain America and Thor are out in a two-month span, they did the same with Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk and it got people buzzing about the series. If they can repeat that success it could pay off, or it could hinder things.

exactly....like i posted earlier, if iron man 2 makes the same or more as the 1st one did, and is just as good....then if thor can pull off the incredible hulk type #'s, and then capt. america do north of 200 mil., and all have good stories and be made well, the avengers will rock the house.

it all hinges on how the 1st 3 before it do and how good they are.

Yeah, that's it exactly. The screenwriter (was it Goyer? Yeah, I think it was Goyer.) said they're waiting to see how the Wolverine spin-off does before officially greenlighting any future X-Men Origins movies. I think it's a safe bet that Magneto will be given the go ahead within a day or 2 of Wolverine's release.

Unlikely.

It'll push the boundaries, I don't think it'll get up to Dark Knight numbers {unless someone from the cast kicks off after filming} but it has the potential to come very VERY close.

Agree, it'll do better than "half of Dark Knight numbers" but I don't think it'll crack the $500 million mark. Look at how many movies in the last 10 years cracked $450 million!

Iron Man did like $317, how much more room to grow is there for that type of movie if it keeps the same tone and everything? The Dark Knight, Titanic, Episode 1, LOTR, Pirates, Harry Potter and Shrek appealed to a wide spread of age groups and demographics whereas The Avengers seems more focused on a male demographic (0 to 40 basically). Throwing The Dark Knight in with those movies because it had amazing legs and appealed to alot of people for being not just a fun summer movie but a GOOD movie. I suppose time will tell... but each of the above movies had a diverse audience (Johnny Depp, Heath/Bale, Leo, Bloom attracted women to their respective movies).

Don't get me wrong, The Avengers should do great, I just don't think 2nd all time. This time last year though I didn't expect the overwhelmingly positive response to TDK, either.

Haha I'd steer clear of the grand finale of Harry Potter too!

Batman wouldn't.

Now that I think about it, I'm thinking Marvel is going to want Favreau to direct the Avengers. That might be the reason for the move.

So, you're trying to say that Dark Knight appealed to more women than the Avengers will?

Unlikely, at best.

It's funny we're already arguing box office on this. We should wait to see how it develops a bit first.

that would be one of the smartest moves they could make.

he sounded disappointed when Iron Man 2 got it's release date b/c there would've been no way to do that and the Avengers movie.

Haha I don't know, a bunch of female friends rushed out to see TDK and even saw it multiple times (for Heath Ledger), which could have been an isolated case. That was a weak point on my part but I just don't expect the Avengers to top The Dark Knight.

Who knows, it's still three years away and I doubt anybody out there predicted the sequel to Batman Begins would be the highest domestic grossing movie of the decade.

*Shrugs*

And yeah, it's kinda funny that we're already discussing box office numbers, I should leave these pointless debates to the fine folk at SuperHeroHype.

I remember reading the interview, but didn't recall what you said about the Magneto movie...

not that it wasn't said, it just didn't stick with me for some reason...
