By the end of '06, likely millions of people will own a PS3 that can play Blu-Ray right out of the box. That takes care of the problem of spending money for a player that might be obsolete later. If the people already have a player, I'm sure many will at least try Blu-Ray, and if the quality is as amazing as I'm hearing, then they'll keep buying. By that time, I'm sure the other movie studios will see that Blu-Ray is selling quite well, and will start producing titles on Blu-Ray. By then, I'd imagine HD-DVD will be dead. Your thoughts, please....
Yes, this was reiterated here many times but since you are new here, we understand your point. This is the only reason why I am not sweating out the "format war"
Welcome

And guess what...there are no HD movie today available on the market... Quite amazing no?
Dont you think that all these customers are ready to purchase a HD movie reader device as soon as it is available on the market? Do you think that 500$ dollars would make a difference for people who already spent huge amount of money for their screen, Home-cinema, Surround speakers, etc?
(and do you know the cost of today's high-quality DVD/SA-CD/CD/DVDA player with HDMI connector? some are much more expensive than 500$).
I am one of these customers waiting for a HD reader device and movies to be available, and I think I am not the only one, because we all are eager to see HD movies on our brain new HD screens.
In other words, let's not compare yesterday DVD market with today's HD market, the context is quite different.

Just for info., I am living in Belgium, I bought my HD Plasma screen in a small shop 2 weeks ago. The vendor told me that he was selling between 5 and 10 HD flat screens per day (most are HD today)! There are 4-5 vendors in that shop. Some models were already out of stock for the country...
Yes, we need true hdtv sources for adoption of hdtv. Once blu ray comes, consumers will realize a need to upgrade to hdtv set and this will speed up adoption and lower the prices . Right now it's very confusing and they don't feel the need to buy and many even think dvd is hdtv

Yup, I believe the adoption of HD will go way faster in Europe (at least in Belgium) than in the US. Just a guess

Yep, I've convinced a huge difficult consumer of the quality of HDTV with LOST episodes encoded in H.263 960x528 (which equals to 1080i). Now, even if it's a 720p, he wants one !

This consumer is my father

Default War is a strong word!

Enough already about a war. It seems this is more about competitive business without serious monopolization. That's just my opinion and it helps drive the market for both applications. The idea in my opinion is to save our resources by finding a way to store info permanently. To do this without creating a back up of a simple system say 20G with 10 to 20 cd's or 5, 4.7G DVD whatevers is brilliant. People need to catch on to the idea that this is important for our future not who's going to win the retail market. Let them both produce and we will see who has the best of the best. Truly, they are probably so similar that it will come down to marketing and money. Its like ps2 and xbox both are great in there on ways but some things are better with one system than the other. So it comes down to a choice and that is what consumers want. the best thing about this new tech is that it will conserve while being very helpful to everyone.
