As I recall fox was going to have different versions for rental and for retail. I wonder if this Is in effect now?

Never in a millions years. the OP only thinks that, but in reality rental and retail get the exact same disc.

No, it was confirmed Fox would be doing this, I'm sure someone has the article readily available

i thought MOST blu's were like this, or at least on my players, i have always had to skip through the previews, i can't seem to remember any blu allowing use of the menu button until they are done. I also seem to remember this being mention by reds during the format war as a huge negative lol.

The rental copies are just Disc One of the normal Blu-ray 2 or 3-disc sets.
I work for Blockbuster (and started the thread.) I now own a retail copy of Slumdog and have the rental copy side by side, the only difference is that the Digital copy disc isn't included. Disc 1 is identical in both releases. Unskippable trailers.

right, the link only talks about bonus material differing from rental to retail. does not differentiate the fact that both retail and rental copies will include the exact same bash of unskipabble trailers. as they will.

I personally didn't find it distracting, as I normally just skip through the previews and see if any interest me. It's not like you have to fast forward through each. You could just hit next on your remote 10 times with your eyes closed to get to the menu.
