So I work for Blockbuster, and had a chance to view retail copies of Slumdog Millionaire and Marley & Me, and both have about 15 minutes of previews before the film. However, what is truly annoying is that you can't just press menu to skip through them. Now you have to hit the chapter button, wait for the preview to load, then hit the button again, then wait for the preview to load, and then repeat as undesired. Disney has done this once before but seems to have wisened up, allowing a menu button to take you straight to the menu. Fox has different ideas I guess, and to add insult to injury, one of the previews on Slumdog (about the Digital copy) is in Standard Def 1.85:1 4x3, with black bars on top and bottom. This causes my TV to have to reset to the proper HD/SD/HD signal and back and forth. Argh.

To each his own, I guess. You CANT skip the trailers on Marley on either of my Players.. The trailers aren't new...it's the inability to skip them, and the fact that they are all encoded as seperate video streams that makes the disc a pain to load on any player.

You can tell we have become such a spoiled/lazy society when hitting a button a few times to watch a movie is an aggravating task...LOL. It never was a big deal to me at all the same with the WB discs having the movie start up right when you pop it in. I do think that the standard def trailers Fox shows before the movie is retarded though. You're showing a preview for a Blu-ray movie at 480p resolution? Okayyyyy??

Although I hate any trailers that can't be rapidly skipped (I mean come on, for a rental? Ok it makes sense in a limited way, not if i own it though).
What I really hate are the anti-smoking ads, and anti-piracy ads. ON MOVIES I OWN. I don't want PSA's on my media. About anything. Maybe I am just picky, though? I don't think it's a commentary on the laziness of consumers, as much as how much crap these companies seem to be able to get away with, and we, as consumers put up with. If I purchase a movie that is going to force me to sit through PSA's or advertisements for other movies, then why did I have to pay full price? How many people would be happy to buy a new car if every time you sat down it spoke slogans like brought to you by carl's jr? How about buy a new home and hear welcome back! brought to you by wal*mart everytime you stepped through the door. I just can't honestly see the difference at all. |
