FWIW: they have several Blu-ray players out there right now that retail for under $200. Not sure if your friend is hell-bent on getting a Vizio brand, but if he's not, you might look around a bit more for your friend. |

I'm in that boat, my friend. Couldn't be happier with my Vizio. Unless it looked like Eva Green, in which case at THAT point I couldn't be happier.

I think that was mostly my fault for the off-topicness. Sorry about that...although I did say in my first post in here that there are others available for under $200, which kind of seemed like the true goal of the OP: to find an inexpensive player. But that's just my deduction. I do see that the question was directed toward Vizio and Vizio only...so my bad!

The other players for $200 are usually a bonus view, or 1.1 player, whatever you want to call it. My player, the magnavox, which is a pretty sweet value, is one of these. But the big deal with the vizio for $200 is that is a profile 2.0. It might be worth it, maybe not.

2. The interest in the Vizio isn't so much that it is BD Live enabled, it is that it internally decodes every audio format, includes 7.1 analog output, and should be reasonablly well supported with updates, etc. as Vizio is fast becoming a fairly reputable budget brand, all for $199. Also on another A/V forum a person e-mailed Vizio directly and they responded that the release has now slipped to "late summer". So unfortunately it isn't coming out next month. |

My best bet it will starting at Costco first then, to other retailers.....Funny thing is when the 37" 1080p came out, the Vizio website didn't even have any information on it but Costco had it for sale.... Quote:

I've had my Vizio 42" 1080p for well over a year. Once calibrated it kicks butt. I'm very impressed by the performance my Vizio delivers despite it costing almost half as much as the name brands. I would expect that Vizio BD players despite their low prices will kick butt too. What remains to be seen is, will Vizio provide FW updates whenever there's the need? I've never experienced any problems with my Vizio TV, so I haven't been able to test them from that angle. I am happy with my Sony S350 player. I won't be buying a Vizio BD player. But I would if I didn't already own a BD player. Last edited by Yeha-Noha; 03-27-2009 at 06:53 PM. Reason: reworded |
