It is interesting to see the general trends in Hollywood movies. Unfortunately we are getting more male nudity than ever before in the last ten years. Female nudity was very casual in the 70's and 80's in movies and much more common than it is today. The prevalence of more explicit sex scenes have been mainly confined to certain genres like adult dramas now. The increased marketing to the teenage audience and the PG-13 rating has generally driven the use of nudity down in the last twenty years.

It's art. Most films just throw it in to attract more people but I don't have a problem with it. Take eyes wide shut for example, the film is loaded with nudity but all the shots are so beautifully done. Then again, that's Kubrick for you but it just goes to show.

I fully support female nudity in movies. Male nudity, not so much.

In the pursuit of fairness, you can't have it both ways.

I concur. Although not all nudity is porn (I am against porn 100%), I do not enjoy nudity in films (male or female)

you actually can, since more females are generally seen nude on screen then males. that isn't a reflection of my own vote, just an observation. not that i mind female nudity

seriously tho...like the OP said, i think if it serves a purpose then it can be effectively used. to show it solely for the sake of showing it (ala the scenes of the girl in Hitman...altho it was still nice to see ) is just a cheap way to bring attention to your film.

It's Rated-R for a reason. If parent's are stupid enough to not be informed of the movie's rating and why it received such a rating, then I have no sympathy for them when they complain.

I do think that the ratings have adjusted some over the years. For instance, Midnight Cowboy was originally an X-rated film, but has since been re-rated to R. The real tragedy is that films with ridiculous levels of violence,i.e. The Dark Knight, are given PG-13 ratings, while films with nudity,i.e. The Watchmen which has about the same level of violence throughout, are rated R.

I agree that is a fact, but that is not the point. Personal preferance for which gender one prefers to see on screen is a different question than that of support for nudity in movies. Nearly everyone, natually, has a preference, and that is all good. However, to display tolerance for your preference and not that of others is not in keeping with the concept of fairness IMHO.

yeh i understand that. my response was somewhat off topic from your statement since you were talking about people's opinions and i was talking about what we actually see. your mindset makes good sense though.

the people here aren't 5 year olds (at least most aren't ). i think we are perfectly capable of carrying on a civil conversation about nudity in movies without having a thread closed so long as people don't return to topics of religion or get into more "vile" discussion.

Parents are stupid. At least most are in my opinion. People automatically think if a movie has dinosaurs, superheroes, etc they believe it is a family movie. Why? For years movies like that portray themselves that way.
Hell when I went to see Last House on the Left a mom brought six kids no older than 10. I know about the rape scene and violence and that made me really sad.
I also hate when they back action movies, sci-fi movies, or horror movies PG-13 to make more money.

This goes on a topic discussed in other threads too about parenting. I agree, that many parents today do not research or look into the movies that their kids see. They ASSUME (Assumptions is the mother of all screw ups) that superhero movies must be made for all ages. Today you can not assume what movies are for kids and what ones are not.

As for the PG-13 comment, 9 of 10 times i enjoy PG-13 over R-Rated movies. It does not bother me that action or sci-fi are PG-13.

I do too, but for horror movies 9 times out of 10 it does not work lol. If it is a ghoist story it can work.

Isn't that an oxymoron?

I have zero problem with nudity in movies. It can be funny (e.g., Airplane!), romantic, etc. I can't really think of a specific movie/scene that was tasteless and offensive to me.

A rape scene can be offensive, but I understand why nudiity is there.

Good point. I guess I wasn't thinking of it like that (in terms of rape), but you're right.

I think most people who really want nudity in movies probably don't see enough of it in real life.

And a lot of nudists are not the kinds of people you want to see nude.

As someone else pointed out, I think a lot of times nudity is thrown into movies just to have it in there. The movie/story would be fine without it. Of course, in some cases, that's not the case.

There's no reason to bring the "I'm smarter than you"/religion bashing attitude into the thread. If clothes are artificial, who cares? In that case, so are computers, and why are you hanging out on the internet?

I have no problem with nudity in movies, and I see plenty of it in real life.

I agree that gratuitous nudity (i.e., nudity that is thrown into movies just to have it in there) is stupid, but I don't have a moral or philosophical problem with it.
