Yeah, it's out. Newegg has it for $494. Extra $100 for a couple extra HDMIs, HD radio and a codec I'll never use? I don't think so.

The extra HDMIs are nice but other than that meh...I won't be upgrading from the 606 for quite some time.

My 607 should get here on the 29th.. Can't wait, I've been using my Yamaha optical-only receiver (part of a HTIB) for about 7 years now.

I've been using a Yamaha HTIB since 2003 and I just upgraded to the 805 last month. You will be so happy.

So does it make that much of a difference even with the same speakers? I'm going to still have the Yamaha speakers for a while, then I'm going to get an Elemental Designs sub in about a month and some Polk towers for the front a while after that.

I'm enjoying my little 706 that I got for $480 brand new. It's got it all & pre-out for extra watts if need be. Let us know how the 607 is with the extra speakers???

Yes, it does. I'm in the midst of replacing all of my speakers. I've got a Klipsch Ref Center channel and I just ordered floorstands.

You'll notice a lot more clarity and crispness. Of course, it'll sound even better with new speakers. But with the Auddsey calibration, it justified the purchase for me within minutes of loading up something with PCM or DTS HD MA.

What's the deal with the 7.2 and specifically the .2? I guess my real question is how will this differ from running a Y-splitter from the single out of the 606 or 605 to two subs?

hey man i had to chime in on this.

when i bought my onkyo 806, i was using my old onkyo sr800 htib speakers

let me tell you i noticed a difference in sound INSTANTLY.
everything sounded fuller & richer. what a difference a receiver can make.

i too only had optical connection on my old receiver and even the optical stuff (directv hd box) sounded better.

since then ive upgraded all of my speakers and put the sr800 thib speakers/receiver in the bedroom for the woman.

GET POLKS WHILE YOU CAN FROM NEWEGG.COM

once you hear the difference with the new receiver youll want new speakers as youll KNOW they will sound better

It doesn't. I mean, I guess it's a powered mono signal, and it'll lessen any signal degradation from splitting said signal, but I can't see it really being much of a factor. It was an easy slap-on "upgrade" I guess. Maybe I'm really missing something but it just seems kind of worthless.

I couldn't find that deal from NewEgg with the polks and I asked a bunch of people online too, so I just got my 607 from Amazon. It just came in today too, I had to order a couple of HDMI cables from monoprice so all my stuff would connect though so I'm waiting on them before I set everything up.

If they did it right, it's a worthy upgrade. By adding an extra subwoofer you can create stereo LFE. For instance, having a subwoofer next to your left speaker should result in your subwoofer working when having an explosion on the left side and vice versa.

It would only do this with the proper decoders and matrixing. While I guess it's possible they've included them, they haven't said anything about it in their press release. The codecs available currently (whether lossless audio or legacy DD/DTS) only have a .1 audio channel. This means no stereo. They would need to "guesstimate" if it's a left or right explosion. With the added factor that 99% of the audio coming from your subwoofer is going to be directionless I not only don't see them doing this, I don't see the benefit of it. Maybe if you had your crossovers set extremely high to where bass becomes directional- in the 80hz and above categories, I believe.

In other words, I don't think they did it, if they did, they're not advertising it, and even if they did I see a very limited benefit from it.

*edit* Just checked the manual. On page 16 it specifically states, "The same signal is output from each jack." IE... no decoding, no stereo, and no go on that theory.

Well, it's possible the 707 or 807 or 877 or 907 will come out with some whiz-bang add-ons, but yeah, for the 607 I'm just not seeing a reason unless you need a ton of hdmi inputs.

what more would you need to jump from an 806 to the 807 or any x07?

what could they possibly offer?

They could always go back to how they had the 805 setup.
