Default Martin Logan Abyss or Grotto

Hey Fellas,

I have till Monday to decide if I should get the grotto or the abyss. The price difference is 100-150 dollars.

Which one would you choose and why?

BigDaddy please chime in!

If they are used, I would get the Abyss. The Grotto has too many advanced features that may go bad and you have no warranty.

Remember that these are high end subwoofers that are very musical and refined. However, they may not necessarily give you the high impact in movies that you may be looking for. Cheaper subwoofers may give you a bigger impact.

Got to agree with Big Daddy. If your buying for musicality (tight accurate bass), then both of these are great choices. If you want home theater thump you may want to look elsewhere.

To answer your question...If you can swing the Grotto, go for it (with the Papa's caveat about new vs used).

Great, I really want it more for movies over all! Now am I confused what to do.

I can get the abyss for 500. Would the price difference for this be as good as the ones your are thinking of big?

For $500, get a new HSU, ED, or SVS for movies. You won't regret it.

Perhaps look into some of the offerings from Earthquake sound !!! Can't go wrong there, I have a sub from them and are extremely impressed and happy with its killer performance. No chance of being dissapointed.

I'd go with the Abyss. I want an Abyss. I think I made it clear in an earlier thread I'd kill for one.
