I would like to see as many Blu-Ray movies come out as possible in a short amount of time. But not if that will compromise video or audio. Or were all the bad transfers caused by a lack of space on the disk

I think that the special features should mirror the DVD release. For example, Black Hawk Down - 3 Disc Special Edition DVD puts the special features on the BR to shame. Some audio commentary and a few featurettes on BR does not make up for the over 10 hours of special features that are on the standard DVD 3 Disc version. Also, there have so far been no booklets in any of my BR's that I have purchased. This should also be included in the BR editions. I am sure down the road all of the BR's that we have now will have to be purchased again or will probably be purchased again because they released special editions with all the special features that were included in the DVD release that should have been released from Day 1 with the BR release.

I concur with the notion that Extras should only be included if it doesn't cost PQ or SQ. If it does, it can be solved by putting the extras on a second disc, as was also suggested. Of course the film industry's number 1 objective is to continue to thrive and grow and one of the Extras, "Trailers", are more likely to be watched if on the same disc than if placed on an additional disc. More and more on DVDs, the trailers come up even before the movie menu.
One bonus quality I'd like to see more of is a second side of the disc with the movie in anamorphic mode. I don't have it yet, but one day I'd love to put together a theater with a front projector, anamorphic lens, and 2.40:1 screen with vertical masking. Then I could watch the movie as big and bad as it was intended to be. In the words of Flavo Flav, "Yeaaaahhhhhh boooiiiiyyyyyy!!" |

...I like extras that might give historical commentary or background (documentaries, interactives) - Master and Commander did that well in the SE DVD (I would kill for that on BR!!!), heck even From Hell had some cool stuff re; Jack the Ripper. I agree some stuff I could do w/out. the only director's commentaries I would even be interested in hearing is mainly for comedies ('cause the comm. is usually funny too! - Tarantino, Mel Brooks, KEVIN SMITH....)

Once the format war is over and Blu-ray confines HD VD to a tiny niche of misguided stalwart supporters (100-150 ?) that wished they worked for a software company, I believe you will see more added value included on Blu-ray discs as a routine matter. If only because the individual Blu-ray studios, at that point, will each be competing amongst themselves for your hard earned dollars so they will make their product look as appealing as possible.
Given the current atmosphere, where Blu studios are trying to end this thing as quickly as possible, marketing decisions are greatly affected by desired debut dates, which in turn affects the decision for inclusion or absence of added value on some individual titles. Believe me, one extra day afforded to a title takes away time from the next project. I’m just happy that Sony Pictures Entertainment places the highest quality of the feature presentation as their top priority rather rushing some of these titles out the door too quickly. I’m grateful that someone like paidgeek or others are in a position to act as a gatekeeper, and make sure that things like adequate bit rates are employed for the production rather than what we have been seeing from other places recently. It seems to me if one were to graph the quality performance of SPE titles from Blu-ray launch, there would be an upward slope to the curve (AQ and PQ getting better and better ![]() |

I have probably used the commentary feature twice in the 5 years since going to DVD. To me, it's like having people who talk through movies. I hate when people try to talk to me during a movie or tv show.

You're not in the minority. When Sony came out with their Superbit DVD's I bought everyone I could get my hands on. I want the best possible picture and audio quality I can get. The extras just take up space on the disc.... |

I use my SONY HD receiver to feed the picture into the Panasonic and record via s-video. It doesn't record HD, but it does record the 16:9 picture. I can see a difference betwen recording at SP vs XP. So, am I essentially recording at superbit quality with XP? |
