Default Picture and sound come first, but what features would you most like to come next?

I can't say "on behalf of paidgeek" but he did post a poll at the BD forum over at AVSF on May 26th. I figure we can give paidgeek some responses as well.

You can choose multiple responses.

Sony Pictures, Sony Corp. as well other studios and player companies are all looking at how to use rich specifications in Blu-ray to add interesting features to our product. The available options are many (and will all be used in due time), but I would like to ask interested members to provide feedback on what new features they would most like to have from the earliest possible date.

You may already have seen how feedback from the AVS forum has led to requested changes in our software so know that your comments count.

Thanks in advance for contributing...

I don't need the extras. Sure, I like watching an alternate ending, but if I don't have that option, I don't care.

Those are going to all come down the pike eventually anyways.

Picture and sound = priority one all the way for me.

Yeah, they should get the video right first. Blu-Ray needs more interactive stuff to seperate itself from DVD. Pirates of Carribean was a good step. More blu-ray movie+game combo's for $69, like Jon Woo's game.

I chose the obvious (picture + sound) and added subtitle downloads, not for myself but others.

I expect one likely version of this would be English overlay subtitling for those with constant height displays. As well as offering languages not normally served a chance to have their subtitles.

Cool

The actual movie has to sell me first. Something like Epic Movie could have the finest quality pic and sound that's out of this world and I still wouldn't buy that garbage.

You're welcome.

Now if some of the mods can find the time to STICKY this thread, that would be even more helpful.

I voted for all of them. I am most interested in the best possible picture and audio quality, but I am also tired of all the lame excuses from the likes of Warner and them holding back releases. So, I say get all the fully compliant hardware out there; no more excuses and let's get on with this thing and end this stupid format war.

Too bad there is no way to put logic equation in the poll. That is, if you chose the first option you cannot choose the rest, while if you don't choose the first option, you have many other options.

47 people voted so far as per this post. 37 people voted for the first option, which should leave about 10 people voting for the rest of the options. But the rest of the options have 40 votes in total.

Discarding the first option, it seems that people do want more stuff in their discs. Hopefully this is a good unscientific method to inform the studios about what we want out of future BDs.

If it's about anime programs, then I put the option of downloading audio tracks.

I say this because I want to watch School Rumble in Mandarin Chinese (aside from Japanese and English).

In fact, I hope this option comes to fruition.

I think the poll shows that PQ and AQ are of paramount importance but some people would like a few of the extras too if PQ and AQ are taken care of first.

Yes I totally agree. Picture and Sound quality is the most important for me. For example I love bonus special features on movies and in the past have purchased 2 disc and 3 disc DVD editions over the years because I love extra features. In the past when a HDTV D-VHS or Super Bit DVD was released I went for the picture and sound quality first and bought the version with no extras compared to the version with lower picture and sound and extras. Extra’s are important to me but Picture and Sound quality are more important.
BLU-RAY can have both a super bit version of a movie and extras if they use 2 or 3 50GB discs similar to what the DVD format has been doing with their dual layer discs. The Disney Pirates movies are a good example of 2 disc BLU-RAY editions that have both good picture quality and extra’s. I would like to see one day the Super Bit process be applied to a few BLU-RAY titles like they do on DVD.

I'm the complete opposite. I would love to have extras that can be downloaded. Seeing storyboards while the movie playing would be fascinating. Seeing a director wave his hands around or hold his hand up to his mouth while he coughs is not needed.

I know I am in the minority but I could not care less about special features. I don't watch 3/4 of the features on DVD! I only say this because I was reading an artical that said HD-DVD had more special features. On another page they also said Blu-Ray had far more uncompressed soundtracks (DD True HD, DTS HD and Uncompressed PCM Tracks). A lot of people probably want hrs of special features, but if it compromises the audio I bet most of the same people would say forget most of the features and give me losslessness audio.

side note to prove my point: I bought the Criterion Editition of The Rock but only so I would have Anamorphic Video and DTS ( Soundtrack rocked by the way "That is bad i know, I could not help it") I only have watched about an hour of extras on it.
