If they came out with a box set of the whole series on bluray I'd consider picking it up. ::crosses fingers::

Thank you for your insights. I'm certain "Prison Break - Season 4" will come out someday , but since I'm from Germany, I'd rather have the set sooner than later to be able to finish watching the series. (I don't watch it on TV because it's dubbed).

Two more questions:

1. What are your thoughts on "Rescue Me - Season 4", "Nip/Tuck - Season 5" and "Damages - Season 2"?

2. Do you know of any other series we should be concerned about in regard to a continuous BD release? "Heroes - Season 3", for example, or "Supernatural - Season 4"?

The fact of the matter is it takes a lot of resources and time to put together seasons on bluray and guess what, its not cheap yet. That is why prices for seasons are still high. At the end of the day this is a business and the studios are looking to make money and when something is not bringing in the cash they will stop for a while. Studios are not stupid and are not going to just keep throwing money away just because a handful of people want a season on bluray. Once adoption of the formay grows and the cost to put together the seasons lowers then you will see more.
You got some valid points there, sure. But all that doesn't help the situation right now. Furthermore, I was doubting their faith in TV-releases on Blu-ray....movies are coming out left and right, there's no problem there.

If this really is "the biggest load of crap" you've read in a while, I envy you.

I can understand how it would be costly to release complete seasons of shows on Blu-ray. BUT...my point still remains. If your just going to release a later season and not previous seasons then your setting yourself up for lousy sales.

Heroes and Lost are safe so far as I know. as is the WB lineup
WB wisely priced them $20 above the DVD, if they could get that down to $15 it'd be even better. $30-40 premium is what's killing them.

I just wish WB would use THD and not compress them so much 5 or so episodes per BD50 is really the limit

Many collectors think that by not starting with season 1, you're hurting sales. In reality, getting people to rebuy what they've already bought, especially at as much as a $40-50 premium (you can get Lost S1 on sale for about $20), is the hardest part. Complete season boxes well priced is the best avenue for that.

People want to buy new things more than they're looking to replace what they already have

Disney decided to take a risk on Lost, because the producers wanted it and the sales were very strong on 3 and 4. Originally it was complete series box only

I understand pricing is a big factor as well...but that is only a certain group of the consumers. I am talking from my perspective and I think a lot of other people are in the same boat as me. I go back to the example of The Sopranos. I don't have HBO and I only buy Blu-ray. I would love to finally watch The Sopranos but alas only one later season is available. So for me personally the price isn't the main issue just the lack of ability to watch these shows from beginning to end in high definition.

EXACTLY!!!!

I love mob films and I love the way HBO does their TV shows (Rome, Deadwood, and John Adams pwn). Sopranos is a natural buy for me but I haven't seen any of it yet ..... of course im not gonna start with season 6 lol.

And who is gonna buy season one and three of Prison Break when there is no two? I bought Season one when it first came out because i thought they were gonna release them chronologically. Now there is no way I would buy three if they dont release two.

I understand that a title released day and date with the DVD is gonna sell better than a catalog title, but that doesnt mean they can just ignore the old seasons of a show. Its not rocket science that people want to watch TV shows chronologically.....

Yeah, Im on the same page. I just have Season 1 and wont buy season 3 (unless I can get it super cheap) unless they all come out on blu-ray.

The number of people coming to the show as first time viewers is very small at this point. They can delay doing the older seasons if it means they're going to lose their shirt on them

To put it another way, putting a season of Lost or Prison Break on Blu-ray easily costs $400-500,000. That's before overhead, pressing ($8-10 a set), storage, shipping and advertising. By the time all is said and done, $750,000 is probably closer than not

That means that they need to sell 12000 units, given standard retail formulas to even begin to make a profit, and I'm being a little conservative on my numbers

Prison Break S1 did not sell close to 12000 units in the first 60 days. I don't know what 3 did, but I'm guessing it wasn't a lot better.

The first 60 days are what matter for getting more of anything done, so it's been backburnered a bit.

Default prisonbreak season4

according to the uk they are releasing the complete series of prison break on blu ray called the break out edition which includes seasons 1,2,3,4 and the 88min movie , so they wont be selling the 2nd season by itself.

Aw man, I hope they don't decide to make Season 2 DVD only. I've been waiting for that one!

Jeff, do you know when we will learn more about it? I am this close to preordering Season 4 on DVD just because I want to know how the show continues.

I suppose "something different" means a Complete Series set....I'm not sure I'd buy that, though....already own the other seasons, and I'm still pretty mad for not being given Season 4 on BD.

Ehm... that makes no sense.
It wíll come out on BD, if not initially it will come together with 'Prison Break's "re-releases".
By which I mean the first three seasons, they usually release multiple versions.
Heck, once 'Prison Break' is done, they will release it in one box like everything else.
If not even that, at some point the DVD will be done for video and it will appear on BD.
First of all, the DVD will sell less and less, and the demand for BD will become greater and greater.

Do not have a doubt that all of 'Prison Break' will appear on BD.
If nothing else for 'Prison Break' was released on BD, that would be a different story.
Currently it might just not be their highest priority, so they're just postponing it.

prison break needs to be released on blu ray i mean come on, season 4 is pretty good i didn't like the mother storyline, but from episodes 1-16 there hasn't been a bad episode, i mean theyre releasing the 88min prison break movie on blu ray jul 22 so i don't get it. Does anyone know if they plan on releasing a complete series on blu ray possibly

How did you make those numbers? Anyway this is only applicable to shows shot in HD, the ones produced on video but shot on film will a LOT more, remember the $$$$ with Seinfeld?

Still, it doesn't make sense to skip seasons for prison break once you start you complete, or at least not skip!

Studios know that it's still costly to make shows on Blu since there's no enough buyers (did you the prices? ) but I feel that once BD becomes mainstream they will make money. Think about old shows , I think there's a lot of people willing to buy some shows in HD. In the same time I don't see a future for the ones not even released or finished on DVD
