Batman Begins is an okay release for picture quality, but people are fooling themselves if they think it looks as good as it could in 1080p. It has been DNR'ed and has a very low-bitrate VC-1 encode from the HD DVD made at the beginning of the format. It was a shame Warner did not re-encode it when they released it on Blu-ray but they have been the cheapest studio of the original HD DVD companies when transferring titles to Blu-ray.

I would bet a new edition comes out when Batman 3 hits theaters, but that could be another two or three years.

i think the PQ looks amazing; looked just as good as the non IMAX scenes in the dark knight... maybe you should calibrate your tv..

Bond is a terrible example though. They've pushed the limits of double dipping these titles with DVD, which is why I'm holding off on any of the new Bond releases until there is a comprehensive boxed set of everything before Daniel Craig.
And also, the Casino Royale double dip actually added a lot of special features. Sony didn't put all those special features on the first time because they knew they were going to do a double dip eventually. There's already plenty of special features on Batman Begins.

Sure, Warner was lazy and didn't re-encode the movie for the BD release. I still don't think there's much of a chance that they really do anything major with it even when the next movie comes out or for a trilogy set. It could look better, but it's not as bad as some are making it out to be. There really is little reason for them to go back and re-do it. This isn't something like Terminator, the non-remastered The Fifth Element, or earlier blunders.

Not before the third film, which I'm waiting for more than a rerelease. While BB can be imporved. I thought it was pretty well done and did the one thing it was supposed to do quite well. The thing: kick the butt of the DVD.

Batman begins on blu-ray from warner was fine.

All the titles from warner have been fine.

But warner have not even come close to excelent.

Warner can do better in terms of picture quality and match the quality the other major studios put out if they tried harder.

I have seen picture quality that has been alot worse that what warner offers.

Batman Begins looks pretty decent. According to an insider on another forum a few years back, the encode mirrors the master. The filtering that seems to take place probably stems from the master. So, it's probably going to take a new master and I doubt Warner will ever do that. However, I agree about just increasing the bitrate on a new encode could help a bit too. Maybe we'll see a new version in time for the next Batman movie.
