Yeah I've been with Comcast for a few years now as a supervisor as well, and I have never once seen that screen. Its not likely coming from Comcast. It sounds like a customer equipment problem. If there were many people having this problem then it would have been addressed already. I can tell you that I've got 2 HD-DVRs personally and never once had a problem.

Like somebody else stated, I would try basic trouble shooting. If you have another tv with HDMI, then try that or try bypassing the receiver, or call Comcast, switch out the box, and then see where that gets you.

Since no one will read the link I provided, there is nothing you can do. A quick Google search revealed that this is an ongoing issue with Comcast hardware and there is no fix readily available.

Seems the only fix that people found was to move to component cables.

I read it and have come to this conclusion. Both the OP and the person in your article have the same problem. Both have Samsung TV's. So my vote goes to a TV issue.

Just curious, when you searched the issue did you find anyone else with this issue with a different brand TV?

Yeah, I searched, HDMI / HDCP / Comcast / Blue screen, it brought up all kinds of issues with various brands.

Edit> the one I linked just happened to appear to be a perfect copy of the OP's issue.

I have 2 samsung lcds and comcast hd using the hdmi...No problems had it for 6 months...

I would suggest getting comcast to come out..And ask for a experienced technician because this is a big problem..I do that and they send someone in a comcast vehicle out..Instead of a outside contractor...I would not go to dish or directtv..Not sure of direct...But i had dish a was not happy with a light rain storm knocking the picture out..And they said that problem was fixed...it wasnt for me tho..it wasnt even raining at my house one time..and i called and they said it might be bad weather around where the signal is coming from lol.....But im sure alot of people are happy with dish and direct...I have comcast now..and the internet and tv is more dependable and goes above and beyond my satisfaction.

Yeah, ask for an "In-house Tech" and they'll send out a Comcast rep.

I read the link. To be blunt about it, Comcast is not at fault BECAUSE they DO NOT "support" HDMI. Yes, there are HDMI outputs on the boxes. However, Comcast does not include HDMI cables for installation because they are aware that there are some minor glitches with them and they don't want to be responsible. Just like the USB and Firewire located on the box. The HDMI are there for customers to use but Comcast isn't taking responsibility for the outcome until they are "100% supported".

All of this coming from a recent training utility that is required for all Comcast employees to complete. At least it is in SWFL.

o.k...take your comast remote, press the cable button, push the SMAll power button to turn ONLY the cable box off, then very quickly press the red MENU button. if you do this correctly you should get a white screen with black writing on it. from here you can change the out put resolution the 4:3 over ride, the screen type and if you keep scrolling down you can change the hdmi audio out put settings. just try getting into this settings screen and changing you settings one by one seeing if anything makes any difference. respond back to me when you have messed around with this. remember that playing with these setting is o.k by comcast you are not tampering with the box illegally in any way so no need to be paranoid about this.

I never said Comcast was at fault, I simply stated it's an ongoing issue with their hardware.

On a side note I found a small list of boxes from Comcast that do support hdmi:

Quote:
Currently, the following Comcast set-top boxes are compatible with HDMI:

Motorola HD

DCT-6412 P3 (says DCT-6412 III on the lower right of box)

DCT-3412

Scientific Atlanta HD

Exp 8300 HD

To learn more about HDMI, click here.
To the OP: Do you use one of these?

as far as not "supporting" hdmi. i hand out free hdmi cables like they are candy. if a customer has hdmi on their tv i will just go ahead and slap one on there. this does not mean that they support them but at least the region i work we give them out.

That quote is directly from the Comcast customer service FAQ.

I'm in SWFL. All we support is component since the HDMI is not fully supported here. I wish we gave out HDMI.

And we use the Scientific Atlanta 8300HDC and 4250HDC.

ouch!

my dad in Orlando has Brighthouse using the SA 8300HDC with HDMI.

...do they really make those boxes without HDMI? ...or in your area they just do not output through it?

HD without HDMI tsk tsk Comcast way to keep up! In all seriousness I find it shocking that its 09 and they have yet to commence supporting HDMI.
