The margin on a console is about 2$, if that, depending on volume, etc. Your margin, usually won't even pay for the cost to ship the units. Hence, they rarely go on sale. That's also why you only save 3cents or so buying one at WalMart [and Sams insists you buy a bundle].

Say, for instance, a business decided to have a sale for 60$ [the cost of a game] off a console. To 'break even', they'd also need to sell about 3[depending on their distribution agreement really] games with it.

Now, a company can use fuzzy-math and twisted logic to get some 'sales' that don't hurt them that bad. Like say, Rebates. They get 6 monthes of interest on the 'sale difference', and most folks won't even turn them in.
