Sony Corp. announced this week that it has finally unlocked some key manufacturing techniques and processes that will allow it to manufacture Blu-ray Disc players less expensively. The significant drop in pricing is expected to be ab out $100 (retail) almost across the board.

Rumor is Circuit City ad has the PS3 for $499 starting 7-15 (I think).

CC will probably run out of stock if this is true. Could just buy the PS3 now, and use CC's 30 day price protection guarantee if a price drop happens.

It's a month old article, and no actual drops have been announced

Sony won't drop the price till fall, don't buy it until it's official

This is an old (June 6th) article and doesn't contain any news. There may be a price drop in the PS3 eventually, but don't count on it happening soon.

Buy whenever you want. If you have the money, go a head and buy one. No use losing the entire summer's worth of movie watching on Blu-Ray over a measly $100. You'd spend that on 5 DVD's anyway.

The S300 was dropped $100 because of this. And people began speculating the if and when for the PS/3.

But, we now see it might actually be true. Big, big wow if that happens.

it's funny how there are "new" members there that are already supporting the "online media" format...

regardless...500 bucks for a videogame/blu-ray player is great value if it pertains to you...not to mention web browsing etc. etc....

but as I said, if it pertains to you...

you should be into both games and BD to buy it at this point unless you need to have it because you have the money..and want it

there are several sites out there now saying that this is a worldwide thing..

We will find out if this is permanent or a sale in about a week. Personally I would guess it is a price drop and there will be a PS3 Elite coming out soon... Wasnt there talks of it a while back? Maybe Sony will announce the drop at E3 and then show off the 'Elite' model.

I don't think they will come out with an "elite"..

but I could be wrong..

I'm surprised they don't go the rebate route. Once GTA IV comes out PS3 sales stand an excellent chance of climbing. If only it was exclusive....*sigh*

Have to agree with the people who said when do game consoles go on sale? For one I believe to even sale new consoles for less than national retail, stores would have to have their (console company) permission.
