I still have my Pioneer LD palyer hooked up in my office. I still have about 180 LD.
In terms of rare or special LD...well I have the Star Wars box set and a lot of imported Disney LD's (Fantasia, Song of the South, and a few others) that have been edited to be polically correct, removing potentially controversial content) I will not be getting rid of these because I highly doubt we will ever see these un-edited versions ever again. |

You know what I miss about LD's????
Being able to purchase the movies months in advance of the VHS or DVD movies. Those were the days. I remeber buying Braveheart a month or so before you could even rent the movie and having a big "mystery" movie premeire at my home for my freinds. Good Times |

What I think is funny is that LD used to retail around $35 - $40. Typically those had no special features except for maybe a commentary track and if there was room, they would throw on a trailer. Then there would be a few special editions or boxed sets that included tons of extras, but you had to pay for them. I paid $100 for Dawn of the Dead, $200 for A Nightmare Before Christmas, and $250 for Star Wars Special Edition. You very rarely got Director's cut of a movie unless it was really special, not like every other movie coming out on DVD these days.
Now, everybody wants every possible extra, extended cuts, along with the original, special packaging and they better not have to pay more than $15 for it! I thought it was great when I could get a LD for $30 even though it didn't include any extras and was willing to pay the premium price for special edition stuff. Now people feel like they are being ripped off if they have to pay $20 for a Blu-ray disc. |

I have ****load of LD's_around 150 titles),do you think there is still collectors that might be interested in them, there just wasting my valuable space, some titles are STILL sealed,I was thinking of listing them locally and letting the person pick em up,since shipping these would be a *****! Whats the likelyhood of someone being interested in them in the first place??? Any LD collectors left?,probably NOT!

this is too funny. i have a Pioneer LD 919 & about 150 movies. Most of my LD are in THX so sound is hard to beat. the sound still blows away dvd even in THX or DTS doesn't matter.
i have: star wars - box set (the big black box) jurassic park - box tron - box robocop - box t2 - box and many more... my cousin has about 600 LD but has the DVDO device the upconverts any input to 1080p and the LD picture is insane just need to wait until the same movies is put on Blu to do a comparo. he has a Panny front projector. i'll b getting the same device which i save up the money it's like $1000. hopefully i can find it less. i'll never give up my LD, oh, u can still by LD players brand new. Pioneer still makes them for us OLDHEADS!!!! ![]() my co-worker came over saturday he has never seen or heard of LD. but was blown away by the box sets something dvd or Blu can never touch. ![]() |

I have about 100 LD's, some of which I haven't even watched (like The Godfather). Felt like watching Tombstone (which should be on Blu) one day and my DVD copy didn't work, so popped in the LD and the machine wouldn't play and has never worked since

I have a Pioneer Elite CLD-95 still in my home theater set-up in my living room, and still watch things on it from time to time. I have about 15 or so discs, including Harryhausen movies and Santana's Sacred Fire video movie, King Kong and the Son of Kong. I love this player, it's been modified to do AC-3 and sounds great. Jurassic Park in DTS on this thing is unbelievable!
I did so much business with the store I bought my HT set-up from and brought them so many other customers they gave this player to me as a thank you! I was stunned to say the least, I will never give this player up....... ![]() |

These were only released in Japan, and can be picked up on eBay for under $800, so they represent a heck of a bargain. They have English OSG, and those selling them usually can include the 120 -> 100 volt converter. As for exclusives, I'd have to go through the collection (about 100 discs), but I know the most notable would be the 1992 Japanese release of "Song of the South". That may never be released again in North America until people grow up and learn to critique properly, which I wouldn't hold my breath on. Oh, and the Definitive Edition of Star Wars, which I believe the master was used for the original versions finally released on DVD. So, not quite exclusive assuming the DVDs measure up. I think Criterion did finally release "Robinson Crusoe on Mars", which was a long time exclusive. Gary Last edited by dialog_gvf; 05-05-2009 at 09:23 PM. |
