Lucky you, I still got about 20 Laserdiscs, my machine died on me about 10 years ago, was never able to find another one.

I think I go all 3 original Star Wars, all 3 Indy, Beauty & The Beast....not sure I haven't look at them in a while, I would need to check to see the one I got. Sure bring me back.

Dern,

I wish it was my laserdisc player you bought for $35!

I gave away my original widescreen Star Wars LD's when the DVD's came out (not the DVDs of the new versions but the DVDs of the original versions... I have both on DVD now.)

The only LD's I have are Pink Floyd's Delicate Sound of Thunder and Laurie Anderson's Home of the Brave. These have not and likely will not be released on DVD evar.

I also have A Video Standard which was the Digital Video Essentials of the LD era... just so I can set up the player. That said... I have abandoned the player.

These days DVD's look bad compared to Blu Rays but LD's are just not watchable.

I made DVDs out of the 2 LD's I have and then just put all that stuff away forever more.

I still have my Pioneer LD player (bought about 7 years ago) hooked up to my 111FD. There are animation titles (Tex Avery, etc.) that haven't been released on DVD/BD.

They don't get out very often, but it's nice once in a while to view this "archive" material.

I bought a Sony LD player probably 3 years after I bought the Star Wars Definitive Collection on LD new from Suncoast Video (shopping mall store) for $250.00. I was happy to finally buy it, the player, but less than a year later I bought my first DVD player so I never had a real "collection" of LD's.

Other titles I own on LD:

Jurassic Park DTS
Mr. Holland's Opus
The Hunted (Christopher Lambert)
Shine
The Crow
Willow

(and probably one or two more I can't think of ATM)

The DTS lasers sound better than their dvd counterparts.

I still have my player, which works great, and a few discs left (I gave my collection of nearly 400 titles to my comic store guy who also has a ton of discs and a player). He's selling them in his store pretty cheap (like a couple of bucks each).

Here are a couple of the titles that haven't made it to DVD yet:

COME BACK TO THE FIVE AND DIME, JIMMY DEAN, JIMMY DEAN
THE LOUVRE (the entire collection of paintings)
STRATEGIC AIR COMMAND (Jimmy Stewart)
ROLLING STONES 25X5 (a history of the Stones)

Here are a couple that were on DVD but are hard to find, or someone wants too much for the DVD because it's been out of print for a long time:

SLEUTH (the original)
SEVEN PERCENT SOLUTION
THE COMPLEAT BEATLES

There are more, but I'm at work so I can't access the info. If I think about it later today, I'll check back with you.

-Greg

A bit of an exaggeration, as they were mostly NTSC imports - in a PAL country.
I sold my laserdisc player and movie collection when I first read about DVDs in 1996 or 1997. Glad I did too!

I have a large collection, the second most advanced player ever made, and a number of very rare discs - both the Japanese 'Squeeze' LD's as well as the North American only Pioneer released 'Squeeze' versions.

Great stuff, great technology. My laserdisc of the Talking Heads 'Stop Making Sense' puts the DVD version to shame in terms of sound quality for example. And Star Wars Episode 1 while not the best movie, sounds amazing in 5.1 Surround.

That said, it's pretty rare to find a disc these days completely free of rot. Most people selling on eBay don't even bother to check.

Oh and one more thing.

Criterion Collection discs on Laserdisc are truly a wonder to behold in terms of packaging. Something that sadly is lost with DVDs and Blu-Ray.

I still have my Panasonic LD player. At one time I had over 450 titles. I started getting rid of them as I bought DVD replacements. Only have about 40 to 50 left, but I have not looked at most of them for a while.

One particular title not on DVD that I won't be getting rid of is "Twilight's Last Gleaming". This title is "supposed" to be released at some point in the future on DVD, but I'm not holding my breath as there is no info about why it has not been released yet. I think it is stuck in rights hell.

I'll be keeoing my player until all the LD titles that I still own are replaced with DVDs or BDs.

I have anywhere between 50-60 films on laserdisc but I would not know which have not made it to dvd as of yet much less on blu-ray. Speaking of which, I think next time I visit my family out-of-town I will make it a point to take out my laserdisc player and movies from storage and bring them to Austin.

Just recently, I hunted down all the original HBO Sports Illustrated Swimsuit documentaries on Laserdisc.

There are still TONS of discs out there to be purchased. Oddly enough, I have seen players that still go for $1200.oo

Way better picture than DvD, but the sound just couldn't touch it. Some of the discs had DTS, but not too too many.

Blu-ray has me satisfied enough to stop turning my head for a while.

I still have my 12 year old Pioneer LD player and it works great. I have the original Star Wars Trilogy,
The updated Star Wars Trilogy
And the Box set Star Wars Trilogy. (and yes if they ever come out on Blu-ray I will buy them again!!!! )
I have 12 other Laser Disc too. I freak my kids out every now and then and play them. They think I am crazy. They are probably right.

I have the Pioneer Combi LD/DVD player. I have it hooked up to a Crestron system so the SVIdeo output is being upconverted to 1080p then output HDMI 1080p to the display. It rarely gets used but since I have a ton of inputs, might as well hook it up.

I have prob 20-30 lds left, most of which are void on DVD or BR:

-The Game: Criterion Collection (dont think this ever came to dvd like this let alone br)
-SOTL: Criterion Collection
-The Star Wars flicks, spec ed, big collectors box with the book
-Cool As Ice (don't ask...never on dvd either, guess its a sign)
-Evita: Criterion
..and some others I can't recall currently, but I would love to sell these off, anyone interested?

I just have my Fantasia laserdisc. The player is stored away somewhere from when I moved down here to Florida, don't remember what company it is. When Kaufmann's was going out of business my mother took the player from security training before they could throw it out, so I got mine for free.

I have the Game on HD-DVD as well, the transfer is tragic. Criterion Edition which is a Fincher approved and signed off on release has never seen any release besides LD. The DVD was bare bones, same as the HD-DVD

Well I have never seen the LD version of it. But I would have a hard time believing that it looks better than the HD-DVD version (even though I agree they did not do a good job with the transfer).
