I don't understand something that tons of HD-DVD people say... "The only reason that Blu-Ray is selling so good is because of the PS3." ..... I don't understand where they're going with that. First off, I have a BDP-S1, not a PS3, but I do realize that the PS3 has tons to do with sales. But the thing to remember is that Blu-Ray sales are still up. It doesn't matter if people use their PS3's or not, that's not even an argument. So I don't get why they point out people using their PS3's. What do they plan on accomplishing by that? That is an honest question that is seriously bugging the crap out of me.

It's hard to trust anything that comes from the HD DVD promotion group. They've been desperate for positive sales press all year and have turned twisting the truth into an artform of misinformation and skewed facts.
When the HD DVD promotion group was claiming that HD DVD standalones were outselling BD by 4:1, that was proven false early this year by actual sales data showing only a very small increase in HD DVD player sales over stand alone BD sales. But, when the PS3 is being used as the primary BD transport even by many "professional" reviewers, it's obvious that those sales can't be dismissed. The whole attach rate nonsense is utterly laughable. Lets ignore the fact that most people don't buy movies as much as some of us more dedicated early adopters. So, attach rates are always going to decrease as market penetration increases. HD DVD advertising higher attach rates with lower player sales, is a promotion for BD, not the other way around. But the way the HD DVD promotion group wants to conveniently ignore PS3 sales, except when they talk about attach rates... come on. They can't have it both ways. Either the PS3 is a viable player in which case BD has a dramatic lead in player sales; or it's not, in which case (assuming HD DVDs standalone figures are correct this time) BD has a far higher attach rate. So I read the article on Engadget.com and then read the comments. The comments were the most ridiculous things I have ever read. You want a good laugh..go read them (or want to be seriously annoyed with the stupidity). PS3 should be counted as a blu-ray player in any comparision. The sales advantage of discs sold, support, etc....you can't rule out. It is like only giving 5% of the total information. The average idiodic consumer will buy into it to some extent. Sony and the Blu-ray group do need to kick things in gear more so...because hddvd seems to be gaining some. They shouldn't be gaining period (even though the ridiculous price cuts and losses Toshiba has....it shouldn't matter). Just seems like some lost opportunities lately for Blu-ray and some desperate moves by HDDVD.

So im sure everybody here has seen HD DVD touting a 60:40 standalone advantage. Along with the fact that they sold 150,000 total units. However, about a month ago the claimed they had hit 100,000 while BD was at 25k. If you do the math, BD is now up to 100k while HD DVD is at 150k which means BD has sold 75k standalones to hd dvds 50k since that last report.

Whoever came up with the original 25K number for BD player sales had no idea what they were talking about.

This is the only crap that HD-DVD group can defend about their format. By touting about the 4-to-1 ratio per player, then why the hell is Blu-ray outselling HD-DVD in total sales and killing it with 3:1 ratio since this year!? These are probably the same people who believes HD-DVD PQ is still MUCH better then Blu-ray... *LOL* what morons!

wow this stuff gets old what rubbish can they say next. verbal diarrhea at its best.
Funny really while i was at frys today buying 3 more BDs for my collection there was three people besides me looking at Blu-rays and no one looking at HD-dvds. also the amount is twice the size and i noticed the end of the isle shelf unit now has BDs. The PS3 and games have now been moved to the front of the gaming section so thats the first thing you see when you walk into store. Not to mention the tv playing night at the museum on BD. This is nothing new and i am sure they are going to only keep spreading propaganda. I laughed as soon as i read the part about PS3 only giving a marginal lead to Blu-ray, this is a sad and pathetic story. |

They also state, that HD-DVD stand-alone players currently outsells Blu-ray by 20 % i the US.
That means, when 100 Blu-ray players are sold, 120 HD-DVD players are sold. Currently there is a big price difference, 20 % isn't too good ![]() + we have the PS3. If it should mean anything, the percentage should at least be 50 - 60 %. The HD-DVD camp hasn't got any cards left, they already lowered their prices far more than the Blu-ray players. Hi all,
Can you all believe this??IGN is flashing this on their site. http://gear.ign.com/articles/795/795760p1.html ""June 11, 2007 - In what would appear to be a weekly tradition now, the HD-DVD Promotions Group is announcing yet more progress for the format in its struggle with Blu-ray. According to the HD-DVD camp, the format now accounts for 60% of all next-gen DVD set-top players sold to this point in time. The figure does not count the PlayStation 3. The group also announced that HD-DVD is achieving a 4 to 1 movie attach rate over Blu-ray, and set a new high for movie sales in May, highlighted by more than 75,000 units sold in the last week of the month. Last month was apparently a good one for both formats, with actual consumer spending on HD-DVD and Blu-ray combining to $5.2-million, 31% more than the previous combined record. "":: Can YOu ALL BELIEVE THIS ??? I THINK IGN IS JUST BECOMING TOO MUCH OF AN ANTI SONY SITE SINCE I DONT SEE ANY OF +VE SONY NEWS THERE AND THEREFORE WILL STOP PAYING THEM FOR SUBSCRIPTION FROM THIS YEAR ON. Am going to gamespot from now on. But whats with this new Stat that HD dvd has come out with ???? |

Toshiba is indicating that they have 60% of standalone players. They've also sold about 50K additional HD DVD players in the last 2 months, which is a fairly huge increase, given they were at 100K in the april timeframe. All these price cuts and movie giveaways are having an impact in player sales. Watch out in the coming months to see if this translates to movie sales (once they finish watching all their free movies) Last edited by blublublu; 06-12-2007 at 02:30 PM. |

Or Toshiba is so far behind that they are forced to lie about sales numbers in order to create false hype. I don't think the price cuts are having much of an effect at all. |
