Also remember - it is digital yes - but all media is digital. What your talking about is the mode of transport/storage.

Thats the only thing changing. Instead of your copy being on dvd/cd - it now resides on a har drive.

There are thousands of movies that have yet to see the light of day on DVD. The chances that they'll be released on BD in the next three years is slim. So cherish what you have. A DVD in hand is worth TWO BDs in the announced list.

I'm not even going to respond to this piracy thing which seems to have taken up more than half the thread.

No I don't think you are crazy. I am actually doing the same thing-I'm down to about 500 that i have left in my house that I will end up just putting on ebay. The only ones I'm keeping are Tv Series or Universal Release i.e. Mummy, Love Actually, Bourne Idenitity-the list goes on.

All the rest will be making their way to Blu-Ray and the fact is you can sell more and make more money if you put them all up at once. A person is more inclined to buy multiple titles because they know they will be able to save on shipping and its all coming from the same place.

In the end is your collection so your choice but I'm doing the same thing-especially since I know what blu-ray is about to do come November/December.

Crazy!

More then half the Blur Ray movies I've seen don't look that much better then an upconverted DVD. There are certain movies I'd say are worth replacing, but for the price the majority aren't. I'd just start from here on out on newer movies and replace the old ones that have that WOW factor for you. Test this theory on your own by renting some blue ray movies that you have the originals DVDs of.

If you do not own the piece of copyrighted material and own copies then it is piracy.

If you own the copyrighted material you are allowed to retain copies for your own use.

Oh and I would not get rid of the collection but in the end it is your decision.

Thank you everyone for your posts. I have decided to sell most of my collection. I got rid of all the crap first for $3.00 each. Then I found out the titles that were on Blu-Ray and started selling those too for $3.00 each. In the end, I hope to keep around 150 regular DVDs, and discard those once they come out on Blu-Ray as well. I do appreciate your opinions and thank you all for your time in helping me with a very tough decision.

Hey everyone thanks again... I just checked out Amazon.com against Best Buy prices and saw that I can save about $5-$8 per movie going that route. Hopefully I will be ready to start buying in a few days. Thanks again for the great tip.

I think you are as George Carlin once said " More Than Happy" in the english language that means you are crazy. I have about 175 DVD's, I am hopefully upgrading about 20. My criterea for upgrading is

1. Is the movie visually stunning
2. will I notice a big difference in the audio presentation
3. Is it one of my favorite movies

To the OP: They are your DVDs so if you want to sell them it is your choice. It sounds like you are doing something but regretting it. If that's the case then I'd hold onto them.
