Well, I picked up "13 Shades of Blue" to kind of give it a try, and I really like it. However, there was a bit of an audio pop on one of the tracks, so I called their order line. I wanted to know if it was recorded on there or if I had a defective disc.

They ended up putting me through to the guy who mixed it! We talked for awhile and recommended some more albums to me. Turns out it was recorded live and thus, the audio pop was normal.

We also talked systems and they're sending me a catalog with some "free tweaks" that can improve sound. I'll report back, but as a whole I was very impressed with their down-to-earth setup.

Oh, and the Blues album sounds great too.

Is there no end to the # of tweaks one can do? I'd like to hear what you receive too aramis, as I just can't figure out what else is out there that can be done......

I don't have SACD capabilities but would really love a good mix of blues, jazz and blues/rock. Suggestions?

On topic, I'm thinking of picking up this cd. Also, there's some other good albums on the mapleshade homepage! *edit* Here's one I like: http://www.mapleshaderecords.com/cds/10032.php

If this is all done with tubes... oh dear lord. I may be in trouble. They sound great even on my little desktop pc speakers!
I like Albert Collins (The master of the Telecaster) He has a live CD ..Its awesome good sonics .... Also good guitar based blues is Gary Moore ....Gary Moore a litle on the Rock side I have a CD with Gary Moore and Albert Collins .... very good

Thumbs up

Check out the Naim label, especially Antonio Forcione Live. Superb live recording, you won't be disappointed!

Nice guys, thanks for the music advice. I'll look into both of them!

On the tweak side, they have a lot of tweaks on their site for people to check out. Among them are lifting the cables off the floor, using hard spikes, not soft rubber/plastic, cutting any "guards" over the tweeter off, and other things that I personally will probably not be doing. Still, interesting reading to be found there. I'll let you know if I try anything based upon the literature they're sending me.

One tweak I found interesting was sitting on the floor or on a pillow, rather than in a couch. They say this little "tweak" will help increase the soundstage and presense. I've personally found some validity to that. Well, at least it obviously changes the sound.

*edit* Just listened to some Albert Collins. I don't like the new live cd, but I do like his sound. I'll have to look into some of his stuff. There's just way too much echo and reverb on that live cd.

Lifting the cables off the floor works ....heres how i did it almost free ... Use a styrofoam cup upside down and cut a groove in the cup to fit wires and wala .... paint them if you want .. but 4-8 cups is all you need.... On the Live Albert Collins its a live recording so thats what you get ...

PS I know I will but which one????
Good Call scooby! I got this yesterday and you were right! The sound stage is wide open and huge! The trumpet/saxaphones are amazing (well everything is but even more so) Sampled each track so far, will sit down for a more thorough listening later on. Excellent recording quality.

Seriosly, give them a call sometime and tell them you love it. You may get to talk to the guy who mixed it. I had a great conversation with them one day. While I don't subscribe to all their audio tweaks, I do feel they have great passion and customer service.

I have a few CD's from them. I really like the one by C-Nuts. They take quite a few of the 80's songs I listened to and remixed it to Jazz. Very cool. I personally like the 'Shock the Monkey' version almost as much as the original by Peter Gabriel.
