Default Help from audiophiles please

I live in an apartment with a smallish living room so I don't need powerful speakers. I would like to stay in the $750 or less range. Is this a good system or do you know of a better option?

My buddy is buying that exact setup for his new home. I'll be helping him rig it all up and I can tell you more about it in a week or two..................sorry, that's probably no help.

I looked it over before he bought it and I could find no reason to talk him out of it if that's any help.

Excellent news. I'd be pleased to hear what your impressions are.
I won't be pulling the trigger for a few weeks probably.

This is similar to the 5.1 system that cc carries and I gotta say its got a great warm sound, the sub is not super solid but does very well for a htib. You cant beat Onkyo's quality name either. I have tried a few tracks and their branded speakers are actually really good for the price, hope you enjoy.

I take it you don't have a receiver now?

Onkyo makes good electronics but the speakers are not as good.
I can't argue about the price though.

No, I want to get a new receiver. Do you have a suggestion about a receiver and speakers? I'm not married to the home theater in a box concept.

In your price range you are kinda stuck with HTiB solutions. Since even something like a Def Tech ProCinema60 set will cost around your total cost alone. That is at retail online you should be able to find better prices.
But then you have to add a receiver. Of which the Onkyo 605 is one of the best deals out there. And that is another $450.

for $750?

you could get these:

Sony STR-DG910 ($350)
7.1 PCM Audio
3 HDMI inputs

Fluance AV-HTB+ Surround Sound Home Theater 5 Speaker System ($200)

Fluance™ DB-150 10 Inch 150 Watt Low Frequency Powered Subwoofer ($200)

This would be a great set-up for $750.

This is a nice setup for a grand.

Shouldn't go cheap on speakers.
The rockets are killer for the price.
