They can remove some of the internal processing, inputs, use older panels. They can do many things to get the price down and also make the set greatly inferior to the sets that are sold at other stores.

True. My girlfriend used to work at the Target but got laid off after the christmas season along with the majority of the good looking ones. BUT, I still shop there, doesn't bother me.

Optimistic view:
This is a good idea, since all analog broadcasts will be cut off by Feb 29 2009. This will force the HDTV revolution to the full since people will have useless SDTV's that no longer work.

Pessimestic view:
everyone will buy digital cable and call it a day and HDTV will still be a niche market.
