I'm afraid Sony will release one day a Superbit Blu-Ray like dvd before, and if they did it i'm very mad.

DTSHD master audio can benefit many movie fans who still have old receiver and not planning now to change it,because Dolby Digital 640kbps still inferior to DTS 1.5 mbs.As a result,i Voted YES.

I voted "It doesn't matter" but I am very curious even this suggestion. Seems as if there is scuttlebut over at that studio.

While my personal preference would be for DTS-MA cause I like the single bitstream solution (and no auto-DRC trigger, ala Bourne Ultimatum on HD DVD or Iron Man on BD) and Dialnorm not normally engaged, it really doesn't make a difference to me as a consumer.

I am curious their reasons for consideration? This is the one studio that consistently offers a lossless foreign language option along with the English, several times it seems they down-rez to 16bit to do this. I wonder if they see a space and bandwidth savings using 2 dts-ma tracks as opposed to 2 separate Truehd tracks and 2 separate DD legacy tracks?

Just food for thought? Anyone else think this may be a consideration?

It makes no difference to me as lossless is lossless.

However, I believe DTS-MA takes up more space than TrueHD - I don't want video bitrates to compromise if this is true.

I voted would not matter, unless one really does take up a lot more space.
(I am sure one does take up more space but I doubt it is a significant amount)

Doesn't really matter to me, but at least if the big six studios are split evenly on audio codecs then they(Dolby and DTS) can keep each other in check...Plus Roger Dressler is just too damn nice.

I would LOVE for Sony to start using DTS-Master Audio. I agree that the quality is very good and I prefer it over TrueHD.

I don't care what's used. The TrueHD track on the Casino Royale 2-disc set is AMAZING.

Sony will use DTS if they get a good enough incentive from DTS. I doubt Disney switched because they liked DTS better. They could care less. I'm sure they got a good deal from DTS, just like Sony will do.

You are comparing the mixes for QoS and Body of Lies, NOT the quality of TrueHD vs. DTS-HD MA. One could use your argument to say that THD sounds better than DTS-HD MA because Iron Man has a more active and dynamic sound mix as compared to Live and Let Die. We all know this isn't true!

Essentially, lossless compression takes a compressed PCM file, and un-compresses it on the fly. Think of compressing a music file in both ZIP and RAR format. Once you un-compress the music file, doesn't it sound exactly the same regardless of how it was compressed? In short, you get out what you put into it. It doesn't matter if it is THD or DTS-MA assuming it has the same input quality (freq range/bitrate) and comes from the same audio mix.

Look at many Chinese BD's, they have multiple lossless/uncompressed tracks on them.

A good example would be Red Cliff. It has 7.1 LPCM, TrueHD, and DTS-HD MA tracks. After you adjust the volume level (THD is usually mixed a bit quieter than DTS-HD MA, I find) they sound exactly the same.

How about The Warlords, with 7.1 DTS-HD MA and THD tracks? They both sound the same.

We also can compare Close Encounters of the Third Kind as it has THD and DTS-HD MA. Same result.

Spiderman 3 has 16-bit PCM, and 20 or 24 (can't remember but larger than 16) bit THD. In that case, the THD should sound a little bit better, at least theoretically.

As for the poll, I don't care what they use as long as it is lossless/uncompressed. I guess the days of PCM are over as basically all of the new players can decode every format, so I would personally prefer THD/DTS-HD MA over PCM now as it eats up less space.

To me, DTSHDMA is more livelier (is that a word?). Since Sony no longer uses PCM I would prefer this over Dolby TrueHD.

Yeah, I haven't heard of a receiver that can decode TrueHD but not DTS-HD MA so I am assuming they are referring to players that either cannot bitstream DTS-HD MA or internally decode DTS-HD MA via analogs.

I use my Panasonic BD-55 via analog outputs as I have an older receiver so I don't care if they use either format.

So far I have been very impressed with the Sony titles. My first BD was Casino Royale, and I find it to be an excellent A/V presentation. I also appreciate their attention to classic titles such as Gandhi and A Passage To India, and the fact that they do not use DNR. Other studios, especially Warner, could learn from Sony when it comes to how to release their films on BD!

Agreed. My only slight gripe is the inconvenience of occasionally having to turn off "night mode" on my Integra on a Dolby track.

I picked doesnt make a difference.

Now if the poll was should Warners do DTSMA, then i'd say definitely!! At least that way we'd be assured of a lossless default! They can't seem to get their default authorization to work.

Yeah, thats irritating... I wish all studio's used 24bit lossless (I don't care which) for all BD releases. I do hate seeing "Dial-norm" pop on my receiver when I'm watching HDTV or BD's. I wish they could just leave it alone.

DTS rocks but I would settle for some 24bit TrueHD tracks. Paramount, Weinstein, and Funimation the only TrueHD studios that use 24bit audio.

DTS-MA all the way.

I will say that the track used for the previews of the new Star Trek movie on Star Trek Season 1 and Movie Collection discs is AWESOME! If that is Dolby TrueHD 7.1 like then I wouldn't mind that either. But as I stated earlier, my current preference is DTS-HD MA.
