The BACK TO THE FUTURE TRILOGY and JURASSIC PARK TRILOGY would be essential. Also, KING KONG, HULK, DARK MAN, and FEAR AND LOATHING would be definitely cool to see on BD.

I think KK is more like an hour too short. It needed more fleshing out rather than less. Should they release it on BD, they would be able to offer Jackson's DC that HD DVD couldn't on a single disc. Who knows maybe they'll even splurge and do lossless audio when the time comes.

but i would like to see both the mummy movies along with fast and the furious, jurassic park, american pies etc but none of those movies i had to have now, i really can wait for so take your time universal. I would rather have a good transfer then a bad one.

Indiana Jones is also Lucas, which puts it in the same high def limbo as Star Wars.

1... King Kong - I bet it'll look better on Blu-ray using AVC MPEG-4
2... Van Helsing
3... Jurassic Park
4... Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story
5... Pitch Black

Would be nice to see these movies on Blu-ray, I foresee this happening when HD-DVD is dead and Universal has no choice but to go Blu-ray.

Hulk
Heroes
Bourne
Career Opportunities
Breakfast Club

Probably a few others too.

Default Relieved, Honestly When I Think About It!!

Okay, here's what I consider to be most of the Universal HD DVD discs that are out - or could potentially come out - that I (or I assume, most people) care about:

12 Monkeys*
About A Boy
Apollo 13*
Babe
Back To The Future Trilogy
Born On The Fourth Of July*
Breakfast Club, The*
Bruce Almighty*
Dazed And Confused*
Deer Hunter, The*
E.T.
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind*
Field Of Dreams*
Frighteners, The*
Jaws
Jurassic Park
King Kong*
Legend
Lost In Translation
Love Actually
Psycho
Mallrats*
Sea Of Love*
Serenity*
Schindler's List
Sneakers*
Sting, The*
Thing, The*
Van Helsing
Waterworld*

The asteriks are films that are either already out on HD DVD or have solid release dates. Now, do you guys notice anything here? Yeah, at first, it looks kinda good, but then I realized...are there ANY freakin' titles BESIDES these you can even THINK of from Universal??? And look at how few are left!!!! They have almost COMPLETELY blown their wad of great titles...and ALL the OTHER studios??? They haven't even scratched the freakin' SURFACE! Just putting things in perspective here. Anything else but these titles is potentially a Blu title, folks. And out of what we have left that HASN'T been released or announced yet? Let's take a look....

About A Boy*
Babe*
Back To The Future Trilogy
E.T.
Jaws
Jurassic Park
Legend
Lost In Translation*
Love Actually*
Psycho*
Schindler's List*
Van Helsing

The asteriked titles, in my opinion, don't spell "BIG HD DVD HIT" to me. Maybe Schindler's, but I doubt it honestly. I'd buy it in a second, but it doesn't scream "buy me, I'll look and sound good". So what have we got left?

Back To The Future Trilogy
E.T.
Jaws
Jurassic Park
Legend
Van Helsing

E.T., Jaws and Jurassic Park ain't gonna be forthcoming if Spielberg's track record with fledgling formats is any indication...and SO...what we've really, truly got here is:

Back To The Future Trilogy
Legend
Van Helsing

And Van Helsing sucks, plain and simple. Might be a good demo title, but...still sucks.

So one great trilogy, one GOOD movie, and one crappy movie left to shove up Blu-Ray's a**?? Please keep your heads up, people!! Universal's ammunition is running MIGHTY low by my estimation...and we haven't even BEGUN to release our GREAT format-exlcusive titles yet (Spider-Man, Fifth Remastered, Terabithia, and I mean, the columbia catalogue speaks volumes and volumes compared to Universal's).

Any thoughts??? ) I truly feel better having thought of it this way, guys. I hope you do, too!

If Universal went neutral today, I'd pick up The Fast and the Furious "trilogy", Miami Vice, and the Bourne movies. Maybe Dawn of the Dead as well.

Nice post dude. I appreciate the effort and attempt to reason! Great way to break it down. All said, so far in this thread I'm conceding only 4 potential 'must-haves' so far (titles that I'd either buy, or can agree people would be longing to see in high def):

1. 12 Monkeys (good call)
2. Schindler's List (depressing, but yes, ok, classic)
3. Psycho (another solid pick)

I'm holding stubborn against ones like:

1. Back to the Future Trilogy (like would you really drop the cash??; this stuff is on Superstation 24/7)
2. "E.T. in high def" (go ahead, sell yourself on that one - that's not a classic you'd watch with any repetition - it's a campy classic for halloween and a fun excuse to huff down a 1lb bag of Reeses Pieces)
3. Jurrasic Park (ok, maybe for the little ones, but it sure ain't no Pirates of the Carribean, Toy Story or Nemo!)

and yeah, #4, I guess King Kong's in there for promising High Def transfer, but it was painfully over-hyped. I know it would give the speakers in my system a nice workout, but I've felt no real urge to see again...

Maybe Dawn of the Dead, but it's not a heavyweight...
