The R-rated version was missing 50 minutes, as I recall.

It definitely was. However, I was just happy that I finally got to see how the movie ended or rather how Caligula got killed.

Whatever happened to Caligula MMXX, the restored cut that was being prepared by the new copyright holder with E. Elias Merhige? Seems like Merhige left and then the pandemic happened and the supposed fall release vaporized.

The film's 100% finished and the plan is for it to premiere in the summer. They're just in the midst of determining where to premiere it.

There was delay in regards to the new book as well, which will be coinciding with the new cut to make it more of a "celebration."

The new stills shown to the backers of the kickstarter is most impressive, they really cleaned the image up.

This was playing at an arthouse theater around 1984. I took a date to see it with me and after about 20-30 minutes she said she couldn't watch anymore so we left. This is the only time out of thousands of movies I've seen in the theater that I walked out. After dropping her off I went to the local Tower Records and rented it so I could finish watching it. The last time I saw the film was on DVD back in 2000. I own it on blu-ray but just haven't gotten around to watching it yet.

I've also tried watching this with a lady who tapped out around 20 minutes in.

Did either of you have follow-up dates with these ladies? Or was this taken as a warning sign (by the ladies or yourselves)?

On the flipside, I showed it to a "normie" FWB a couple of years ago, and she loved it. She has an appreciation for cult genre movies, although you'd never guess that from looking at her. In any event, she told me afterwards she would be down to watch it again.

Lol. That's how I found out my "normie" FWB wasn't so "normie." The first time we got together, we were talking about movies, and out of nowhere she asked if I'd seen A Serbian Film. I was in shock she even knew that movie existed. She'd seen the movie, though. To cut a long story short, I've been periodically introducing her to cult genre classics ever since.

I did. She enjoyed movies like me and we saw a few other films together. Also, when she said she didn't want to finish watching Caligula I didn't make a big deal out of it. We simply left.

They're not supposed to be, but it seems Thomas Negovan accidentally set the last update to public. If you head over to the Kickstarter page for the book of on-set photos and click on the January update, you should be able to see them.

I watched this with my first wife many years ago. We watched the entire thing, and then agreed neither of us wanted or needed to watch it again.

My missus has never watched the film start-to-finish, but she's caught a lot of it when I've put the Blu-ray on and she's been on her laptop or whatever. It was funny when I met Malcolm McDowell recently and told him how I loved the film. He turned to my other half in amazement and was like, "And what do you think? Do you think it's just porn!?"

So basically, you’re Travis Bickle.

I saw them. They look real good. I'm totally stoked about the new edit. I'm actually interested in the book also. It would make great coffee table material.
