I love it, and it continues to get better on repeat viewings. I like Tony's story arc, I like the villains (including Trevor and the twist), and I think it's the most personal Stark film. Plus, it's Shane Black, so the movie has a real 80's feel, and the dialogue is whip smart. It just works so well to me.

Nice! I wonder how it will do in its run. Will it reach 500 million?

Really enjoyed this movie. They did a great job. Probably the best one all summer. Was it me or did the score have a hint of The Avengers in it? Something sounded as though I heard it in another Marvel movie before.

But I agree with you.

Off topic in this thread, but I absolutely think that Iron Man 3 is the best IM movie. It has the best plot and villain(s) of the 3. It was a welcome break to see Stark's genius outside the suit, as well as in it. Iron Man, as good as it is, had a totally forgettable and tacked on villain in Jeff Bridges' character.

It brings up a great question about genre and superhero films in general- Do they always need a big dark baddie to work? Do the writers really have to come up with Darth Vader v201.6 every single time? I'd really like to see some more innovative plot lines and story structures in these movies, and I hope their success can foster some greater imagination.

I have to agree. I'm not a big fan of the Marvel movies, but I thoroughly enjoyed IM3. Have to agree with the other guy about the Shane Black dialogue too. The slagging it gets - especially in comparison to, say, Iron Man 2, which was piss-poor IMHO - is straight out of Bizarro World.

My rankings go:

Guardians of the Galaxy
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Iron Man
The Avengers
Captain America: The First Avenger
The Incredible Hulk
Iron Man 2
Thor
Thor: The Dark World
Iron Man 3

They're all watchable. Once the dust clears I'm pretty sure Winter Soldier will end up ranking as my favorite. I find myself growing to really love the Captain America films because they feel like a throwback to 80s and early 90s summer blockbusters before everything needed to get "dark."

The problem I have with Iron Man 3 is not so much because of the dialogue or the uninspired twist with Trevor/Mandarin, but because of that awful last act where there is all this advertising going on with multiple armors flying around and none of them did anything different from each other or were worth a damn. That finale should have kicked ass, and it just fell flat.

Anyway... Not to jump on any bandwagons, but I loved Rocket and Groot the most in Guardians. Alot more than I thought I would.

I enjoyed IM3, I just thought it was dragging on way too long.

And I wish Kingsley was the real deal Mandarin.

Loved the movie, I loved how Rocket broke the fourth wall a few times taking shots at cliche scenes in movies such as
[Show spoiler] Ok, we're all standing up... in a circle, like a bunch of jackasses

When Groot stood up in their circle I lost it before he even opened his mouth... since I knew it was coming.

Loved Batista's/Drax's frankness.

Zoe is always hot in every role. Her character didn't interest me enough, or the execution of her character that is. It was weird watching Star Lord, it was really like watching a poor man's RDJ Tony Stark with his wit and humor. And I admit when he first used his rocket boosters on his feet it kind of looked like the first time Stark was testing his suit in the lab.

The theme is in the same key range as The Avenger's main theme. But what I think you found similar was the 3-6 section of Guardians' main theme. Which was originally heard in John Ottman's score for Fantastic Four (2005) & heavily used in Shane Black's Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. I think both came out in 2005, actually.

Hope that helps you and others from going crazy trying to figure out where you'd heard that little motif before.

Rocket's a great hero. I was mighty surprised at how much I came to like him. He really had me at hello...or screw off...whichever he'd say if he met me. LOL

I didn't get Groot before I saw the movie. Even though I was excited about the movie, I just didn't understand Groot. That changed really fast and I really enjoyed him a lot. He was hilarious and you couldn't help but love him, too.

Drax:
[Show spoiler]I'm not a thesaurus and nothing goes over my head.
(I had thought his character wasn't that strong...cardboard cut out bass ass, but the more I thought about it, the more I changed my opinion.)

Gamora: Now, she has probably the most potential for growth, IMO. She's a good female character, but I really want to see more of her and what she can do. Surely, she's more than a green Black Widow.

Star Lord: I wasn't sure how much I was going to like him when I watched the trailers. He came across as a high school bad boy in them. But he really was amazing in the movie overall. I think he'll be a major player in the Marvel Universe. Chris Platt is a talented actor and I think this movie sent his career flying.

I really like your description of Star Lord. It's really an apt one.

Yeah. The suits should've had different powers like Captain Planet's planeteers. Then the movie would've been awesomer!

I didn't bring any baggage to IM3 and quite enjoyed it. I really liked how it tried something different with the narrative and the movie was equal parts hilarious and compelling. I get why some fans didn't dig it, but it worked for me (and based upon the box office, most other people).

I think this movie did a great job of mixing in some great humor. I think it would be really hard to introduce these characters to the majority of the audience that have never heard of them, and make it too serious.

The light and comedic tone was great.

[Show spoiler] When Rocket said he didn't need the leg, I couldn't stop laughing. When he said he was going to need "this guy's eye" I lost it.

When Rocket called out Peter about not having a plan, that entire exchange with the team was hilarious.

When Rocket said he needed the battery behind the switch, and in the blurry background you see Groot going ahead and going for it, it was pretty hilarious. I loved how inept Drax was, but how serious his character was. It took a scene or two for my brain to stop projecting POWERBOMB BATISTA POWERBOMB. But once I blocked that part of my memories of him, I was able to accept his character pretty quickly.

I know Bautista was a wrestler but that isn't what I thought about when watching this movie. I was engrossed in the movie.

This is the first time watching him in a movie, I didn't see Iron Fists.

So I knew Batista recently left WWE to go and promote this movie.
