right now it sits as my third favorite film "of all time" and after watching it today (well, listening to Fincher's commentary on it) i remember why i love the film so much.

it moves slow (as do most of Fincher's films), but builds up many interesting characters, an intriguing, true serial killer story of the Zodiac that took place in California in the 70's, and is built like a real life puzzle that you, the audience must put together. some will hate that the ending doesn't give you any closure, but hey, that's how the REAL STORY ends. so what are you gonna do? make it up?

the film feels and looks like the 1970's as Fincher and his crew have spared no expense in making you believe what era you're in. what i love most though is how the film feels like a documentary. although being about a serial killer, there is very little in the way of violence or gruesome acts, although, there are a few and when they come, they are full of tension, fear, honesty and realism. the scene
[Show spoiler]at Lake Berryessa is particularly gut wrenching
and i find that scene harder to watch than any horror movie in many years. not because of blood or gore (which there is barely any blood, no gore) but because of the realism. and also the
[Show spoiler]scene where Graysmith (Gyllenhaal) is in the basement with the old man who worked at the movie theater was especially disturbing
because of the acting, lighting, score and directing. it's amazing how a film that has very few "scary" moments excels where horror films themselves fail time and time again.

Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr., and John Carroll Lynch all do masterful jobs here in their respective roles, and RDJ deserved an Oscar for his role here. he was fantastic!

another great thing i realized after viewing the film about 10 times was how the story shifts between main characters. and Fincher does it flawlessly. first it starts off with the police and the crimes, and then it shifts to Robert Graysmith's (Gyllenhaal) obsession with the Zodiac.

i've seen the film about 35 times since it was released a few years ago, and it always gets me. i'm sucked in to the believable world that Fincher has created and i truly believe (sadly) that Zodiac will forever be an underrated classic that people seem to always forget about.

Zodiac is MY Oscar winner for Best Picture of 2007.
and it wasn't even nominated by the folks in charge...

5/5
Very nice review even though I already read parts of it since I'm about to watch this movie for the very first time. It will really suck if I love it though since it's so damn expensive to buy now.

I also thought Quinton Aaron did a fine job as Michael Oher but to me he didnt fit the role physical/appearance wise in my opinion. The real Michael Oher looks a bit more intimidating. My favorite character was Jae Head who played S.J. in the film. What a funny kid. I loved him during the recruiting process and he was refreshing to watch.

One of my favorite moments in the film was when
[Show spoiler]Michael got upset and went to look for his real mother and got invited to that party in his old neighborhood. The fighting sequence that took place was excellent and it really showed the protective side of Michael and how much he could actually defend himself.
All in all I really enjoyed this film and the replay value is fairly high in my opinion.

Film Rating - 4 stars (out of 5)

PQ - 4 1/2 stars (out of 5)

AQ - 4 1/2 stars (out of 5)

Got Em!!
I gave the film 3 1/2; it was much better than I thought it would be and I think it's one of the better sports films.

For me 4/5.

Just saw 'Looking for Eric',and thought it was by-the-numbers from Loach.Nothing special, but liked the performance of Cantona.3/5.
It was by far Fincher's best film, although his best directing performance is far and away Benj. Button.

I think this is a great review. Zodiac is def a good film, no doubt about it. Three or three and a half stars in my book. That being said, it had no business whatsoever being nominated, as there were far better films that year. Just my opinion.

yep. those are his 7 films so far. my order would be...

1. Fight Club
2. Zodiac
3. Seven
4. Benjamin Button - revisiting this tonight, only seen it once
5. Alien 3 - haven't seen it for a long while now
6. Panic Room
7. The Game - haven't seen it in years though

it might change a little bit once i revisit everything. i would love for The Game to come out on blu along with Panic Room so i could complete his filmography

if Zodiac was supposed to be nominated with the 80th Academy Awards, then i am wrong for it winning best picture - then it should have gone to There Will Be Blood! but if it was supposed to be in with the 79th Academy Awards then it easily should have won. but Zodiac came out in 2007, so i think it would be with the 80th grouping in which case it had extremely tough competition! i think it should have been nominated for both years though.

Memento(Netflix Rental)

Director: Christopher Nolan
Cast: Guy Pierce, Joe Pantoliano & Carrie-Anne Moss

Film: 4.5/5

This was my first time viewing this film and I loved it. Most people I talk to say they love it even more the second time they view it. Which is great since I loved it already. The writing/directing was fantastic. I was never bored by this film especially bc of the way it was told. I cannot believe it took me so long to watch this!

I have seen most of Nolan's films and have really liked them all. He is a great director and imo a great writer. He knows how to keep his audience involved in a film. After seeing this, I am even more excited to see Inception. Memento is def a film that tested your mind and your memory. I have always loved these psychological films that really made you pay attention to details. After seeing this, I have to say that Memento is def up there in the top 5 for myself in films like that.

While watching this I thought I had it figured out half way through and then a quarter of the film later I thought the same but with a different solution. Not until the last 5 minutes did I fully understand it, and I bet money when I view this a second time I will prob find things I didn't notice before and I really hope I do.

Guy did a great job in this as well as Joe and Carrie-Anne. Guy Pantoliano has always been a favorite actor of mine. I just seem o be drawn to his personality in his films.
Guy made a great impression on me and I will def have to check out a lot more of his films!

I want to thank all of the people on here who have ever said to check this film out especially surfdude. It was def worth the 2 hours of my time!

500 Days of Summer - 4.5/5

Joseph Gordon Levitt was great! I hadn't seen one of his films in a long time, but I'm a fan now. Can't wait to see Inception and Hesher. Zooey was great too, I'll see anything she's in

I really liked the film. We, the audience, are Tom. The movie is a play on our (and Tom's) expectations of a romance movie/relationship. The Narrator told us in the beginning that it wasn't a love story, just like Summer told Tom in the beginning that she didn't want anything serious. But of course, the audience (and Tom) has been conditioned to expect a typical romance movie/relationship with a happy ending. I thought it was a very well done film and I can't wait to see it again someday
