Nerdist Podcast: Daniel Craig

Excellent podcast featuring Daniel Craig. It's interesting to hear him talk about the approach they took from the beginning and how they had to build Bond from the ground up. They took into consideration many factors with the approach they took, but they largely abandoned most of the cheeky Bond stuff due to what Mike Myers did with Austin Powers, and how you can no longer do a lot of that stuff without thinking of those films in the back of your mind. If you've got the time, I recommend listening to it.

I agree about the song itself, I saw the movie yesterday and have been humming the song all day! I like the tune and the lyrics but Smith...ugh.

So regarding Andrew Scott, I was a little disappointed by Ralph Fiennes' "careless"-remark. I would have loved if he used that other c-word.

I think that's part of the joke, audience members "in the know" will realise he actually means that other c-word.

I like the fact though that "C" is an in-joke. It was the codename of the real life head of MI6, one of people who Fleming based "M" upon.

Lol...I was expecting him to say the same thing, too!

The "C" thing is another little "this makes no sense" thing in the movie:

[Show spoiler]Bond decides to call Denbigh C in a private meeting with Denbigh and M, but by the end of the movie literally everyone calls him C, to the point that M refers to Denbigh as C during that goodbye speech Blofeld is tapped into when Bond is at his lair. Did M send out an office-wide memo like "yo Bond wants to call Denbigh, who's technically all of ours bosses, C instead because it stands for you-know-what and I just don't like the guy, so let's all just call him that from now on."

I know it's a nitpick, but ugh... this movie needed some more work. First half/two-thirds are fine, it's just... the last hour.

Meh. It's like, why do they call Scaramanga the Man With The Golden Gun? Shouldn't he be the Man With The Golden Bullets? I try not to sweat the small stuff really.

I know they couldn't drop the hardest word in the language and still get the PG-13, but I was hoping it would just cut away. I laughed out loud and then.... Fiennes ruined it with "careless."

It got a huge laugh from the audience I saw it with, me included. It's not that much different from the classic "I feel a slight stiffness coming on....in the shoulder" in OHMSS, folk can call it "ruined" but it's still a laugh-out-loud moment of implied naughtiness.

You mean like the Goldmember plot twist in Spectre?

Not to mention they
[Show spoiler]bring back Blofeld's scar in Spectre too
. I think the Austin Powers movies have themselves become so passe now that the Bond films needn't worry about them too much anymore.

So I finally saw it today. Thought it was pretty good, and only a little bit of a comedown from Skyfall. There was only one thing I didn't like. Pre-Craig Bond movies had a much more vibrant color palate. Spectre seemed too desaturated, too dingy to be a Bond movie of the old school.

I guess I like my Bond movies to look like Bond movies.

I like this a lot better than the Sam Smith one. On the other hand i can see how this one doesnt give that total bond feel. And why they scrapped it.

Someone put the Radiohead song on top of the opening credits and it worked a lot better for me than just listening to the audio

I think the Radiohead song is pretty awful, and I'm a big Radiohead fan.

I hope they get a chance another time, but that song just didn't work for me at all.

Granted I'm a Radiohead fan, but that song kicks ass and works with the credits and movie ten times better IMO. Silly studio executives.

Finally watched Spectre, and as I expected I found it boring. I found the trailers boring and the movie was the same. Casino Royale is still my favourite Bond movie, enjoyed Rogue Nation much more than this one, that's how bond movies should be.

Everything was just mediocre
