My ideas for phase two of the MonsterVerse

[Show spoiler]
Kong: Hollow Earth (final title, cause it matches Kong: Skull Island's title) - original idea is much original all mine yes. Main points for this film would be to explore the Hollow Earth, with one side wanting to respect it and another side wanting to exploit it. Eventually the latter side does unleash a great evil monster that would completely destroy the surface world, and Kong is the best thing that could stop it in time. A original monster since Warner wouldn't want to lose money or Japan distribution rights for a Toho character.
Some key things I would want to see pop up in this one would be the Hollow Earth civilization, we know they existed once and perhaps they still do. And I think they should be pretty large humanoid race but I don't want it too be too similar to the aliens in James Cameron's Avatar. Maybe titan people? A attack on titan people?
Most of the film should take place within the Hollow Earth but the final showdown should make it to the surface, bringing Kong back above ground one more time, preferably in a more unique location.
I really toyed with the idea of introducing the Son of Kong, moreso of a homage to Son of Godzilla with Kong becoming the adoptive father. But it would be too tricky to explain where a infant Kong came from, plus Kong is already acting as the adoptive father for Jia. Probably best to just drop that idea.

Godzilla: Save the Earth (pending title, but I already dub phase two as the Earth trilogy so it may work). Ultimately a homage to Banno's Godzilla vs Hedorah. My idea is that Hedorah started off as a invention to consume waste (with a easter egg being that a alien spore was used to make it) but it goes out on control with the waste changing it into a deadly giant monster. Godzilla has been chasing Hedorah around but he can't seem to stop it. All of this would be explain in typical MonsterVerse opening credits with the movie actually starting a few months after Hedorah has already rose and made several cities uninhabitable. I want this to sort of harken back to 2014's Godzilla with it being more of a grim and dark film. I think it could also reflect a bit on the covid situation, with parts of the world near Hedorah's landings being fairly toxic and characters having to wear full body gear to search for answers.
My vision for the first big scene is a group of characters searching around "ground zero" where Hedorah first rose looking for some clue on how to stop it. One remarks "it's starting to rain" while the other one is looking at the sky. "It's not rain, and that's no cloud". Hedorah (in flying form) is above the city and raining down to form its amphibious form. What started off like rain turns into boulders of sludge dropping out of the sky as Hedorah's body slowly forms in the city. I just really like that visual.
Godzilla is pretty pissed off in this film, and he's covered in white burn areas where Hedorah has attacked him. His spines have also started to turn a bone white, serving as a homage and a plot point that his energy is depleting from chasing Hedorah around so much. He's weaken but he won't give up.
Ultimately, Hedorah is mankind's responsibility. "If Godzilla dies, if the Earth dies, it's our fault". And it would be up to the human characters to find a way to take down Hedorah, with Godzilla being the one to finish it off. Needs to be different from how it went down in the 1970's film though. I don't want this film to be too preachy with its environmental message though. That was one of the criticisms of KOTM.

Godzilla vs Kong Part II (not final title, but maybe final title should also use the word Earth). Even though Hedorah has been defeated, the Earth is dying, with most of the monsters from the Hollow Earth coming to the surface to take over a harsh apocalyptical world. The surviving members of the human race consider retreating into the Hollow Earth as the only means of survival. One group attempts to, only to be stopped by Godzilla who seems to be guarding the entrances to Hollow Earth, no longer trusting mankind to care for another world. It is a big question with the survivors if they even deserve another chance, being that they were the ones that destroyed the planet. The ones who have already settled in the Hollow Earth look to Kong for help, who seems more willing to give mankind a second chance. It leads to a second confrontation between Godzilla and Kong, a fight not to determine who is the alpha titan, but the survival of the human race.
Godzilla still overpowers Kong, but Kong will not back down and allow Godzilla to destroy the humans who have fled to the Hollow Earth. Ultimately Kong does manages to convince Godzilla to return to the surface and leave mankind at peace in his world. After generations, the world of monsters, ruled by Godzilla, slowly begins to heal.

Not that any of it means a thing and I just wasted twenty minutes typing all of this. But sometimes dreaming is fun.

Those titles actually work well together. I like the throwback to this:

The soundtrack is awesome in this movie. My favourite being Tasman Sea when the music ramps up as Godzilla attacks Kong on the ship.

I saw this in the theater and watched it again on HBO Max last night, UHD @ 60hz. After a bit, I noticed that many/all of the closeups of Kong's face looked like they're from a videogame cutscene (i.e., not great). On the other hand, the CGI mouth parts are fantastic. Super realistic membrane textures.

Re: vinyl -- one detriment to vinyl is it affects track order, based on the number of minutes you can get on a side. Also, you can't have a track with deep bass near the spindle or you risk the needle literally getting bumped out of the groove.
So you may not get the artists' intended experience until you get the CD.
https://www.redsharknews.com/audio/i...tions-of-vinyl
"Gabriel had always intended 'In Your Eyes' to be the closing track on the album, but there was just too much bass for it to be cut near the centre of the disc."

If you respond about vinyl, please try to say something worthwhile about the movie first.

Third watch but this time at the theater. There were only two other people in the theater (just a normal Cinemark screen) besides my buddy and I. Wow...this just has to be seen on the big screen if you're comfortable with that. When I got out the XD theater had quite a few people going in. I hope it continues to surge.

I had this theory pre-release, that the reason Junkie XL's Godzilla theme was kinda shit was that it was actually
[Show spoiler]Mechagodzilla's theme and he was disguised as Godzilla
because that's what I thought the trailers and leaks were telegraphing, but I guess that would have made the film too interesting idk.

#GodzillavsKong remained #1 FRI with $3.88M pushing #boxoffice cume to $60M becoming top-grossing domestic movie of the whole pandemic surpassing Tenet's $58.5M after only 10 days. Wknd shd hit about $13M lifting cume to nearly $70M in 12 days, on track to possibly break $100M.

So it made $1.9M average a day from Monday-Thursday

Just saw it a third time, but first time in a theater.

I generally don't defend the theatrical experience over home viewing, unless you have access to a big IMAX then the cons usually outweigh the pros. But compared to having to stream on a phone or over a inconsistent connection - it was so much more enjoyable. Plus the sound was so much better, I was worried because the last few movies I saw there (over the past couple of years) had the sound turn down lower than usual. Today it was just loud enough at all of the right parts.

Also, the cleaning guy came in right before the three-way fight at the end - which seems a bit too soon and considering how he just stood there and watched the rest of the film, I'm assuming he meant to and probably has done it before. I kind of envy him. My job would be more enjoyable if I could watch a kaiju smackdown every two hours.

*sigh* This is what I'm referring to when I say "LP/WB just can't win with these movies". I'm now 100% convinced that, no matter what they do, there's always gonna be a section of fans out there crying about "nawt enuff keijoo actyun". I screencapped one of the comments from John Campea's GvK Out of the Theater reaction video, and it just reeks of fail:

This guy has no idea how budgets or plots for kaiju movies work. He's trying to make it a black and white "one or the other" between kaiju fights and "boring humans" and just being an all-around ignoramus.

First off, if it were JUST 2 hours of kaiju action, it would be plotless drivel that would get old after a while. As much as I didn't care for all the sex/dating talk in the first Cloverfield movie, if they weren't at the beginning of the film, the falling Statue of Liberty head and walking kaiju silhouette around the buildings scenes wouldn't have nearly the same impact. A kaiju movie needs both to work.

Secondly, it would drive up the budget to $500+ mil if this guy had his way, and that's probably a generous estimate. The first movie cost $150m, and that was with around 20 minutes of kaiju screentime. These bloated CGI models cost money just to put onscreen, imagine them being there for 2 hours.

And sadly, this wouldn't be the first time I've seen somebody write such mindless drivel about the MV films:

GODZILLA VS. KONG Concept Art Reveals Closer Look At Mechagodzilla; Adam Wingard On TRANSFORMERS Inspiration

Quote:
"I remember watching the third Transformers movie in the theater. It was one of those things where I was with a date, and we got there late, and the only seats that were available were literally in the front row. And so I'm sitting there watching Transformers 3 in the front row, and I couldn't tell what the hell was going on," Wingard recalls. "The Transformers, they just looked like metal. They looked like a plane crash. So I thought, that's the thing I wanted to avoid. They were too complex. There are too many moving parts, and I couldn't latch on to anything. Nothing felt iconic with that Transformers design."

The only good thing about that movie are Godzilla & Kong fights but even there is a little problem, as there is no sense of scale at all. Everything else is pure garbage and the way the main opponent is defeated is totally laughable.

3/10

Skull Island is still the best movie of that series and it's not even good.

Worldwide total is now over $350M+. As expected it will pass KOTM sometime next weekend. Pretty amazing considering most of Europe is closed.

Just $29m short of GKotM's WW total already, though it's a real pisser that there's no theatrical release in my neck of the woods. Hopefully we'll get some 'encore' screenings when theaters reopen here.

It appears that the two other creatures that pop up in the Hollow Earth may actually be homages to Peter Jackson's Kong. An audio description version of the movie refers to the grab/spider creature as Arachno-claw and Foetodon for the lizard that eats it - both being creatures from Jackson's Kong.

If you're gonna see this, I highly recommend going to a Dolby Cinema if possible. It gets incredibly bright and the seat rumble is ridiculous, probably the best I've experienced since I started going to Dolby a few years ago. Totally blew away the presentation at a rival chain's premium theater with Atmos.
