Put my in with "very underwhelmed" group. I was expecting more out of this, but found myself shaking my head quite often.

Here is a small breakdown of the problems I had:

[Show spoiler]It was amazing that with a strong police presence not one officer calls for backup at any time (bus crash, domestic disturbance call, and incident at Laurie's place at the end).

When Michael gets his "uniform". The gas station had a few customers already implying that this was not some sort of "out in the middle of nowhere" station yet Michael murders multiple people without someone noticing him or calling the police (woman in passenger seat of truck at the pump - where was driver?)

Random, pointless, killings such as the woman he killed in the front window of her home, then sneaks into house to hide in the closet. So let me rephrase that to put in order of the killings during trick-or-treating. Walks into property and takes hammer from workbench, proceeds inside the home to kill woman who was baking in order to establish him with traditional knife. Goes outside amongst crowds of children and adults before going to another random house just to kill some unknown woman in her front window. At this point enters another home goes in to child's room to hide in closet (?). This is where the cop is responding to domestic disturbance call discovers the brutish scene without calling for backup. Lastly he kills the granddaughter's friend in some random yard.

Bullshit twist with doctor. Why does he put on the mask then put it in the backseat with Michael? A better twist would have been if it was discovered that Laurie was the one who caused the bus crash.

Laurie's home. If you are truly preparing for a final confrontation in that home why weren't there any security cameras inside all of the rooms with a set of monitors in the safe room/cage trap? That leads to a sequence of now roaming through a dark house going from room to room to find Michael. Wouldn't have been a smarter decision to cage all of the rooms at once then investigate each room one by one instead of walking into individual rooms not knowing if Michael is in said room, or now in the hallway waiting for her to back out of room?

The ending. Are they intentionally trying to be vague about Michael's fate so that they can continue doing sequels?

Rewatched the original last night, not quite as great as I remembered it from several years ago but still good. Only other Halloween movie I've ever seen is the Rob Zombie remake, which I barely remember anything about. Hopefully gonna see the new one tonight, looking forward to it.

[Show spoiler]Yes imo micheals deaths should always be vague imo because let’s face it the franchise is never going to end it will always go on and on until money drys up what’s the point of giving him a proper death just to work around that in the beginning of the next movie.

Making him somewhat disabled was a smarter choice with some of his fingers missing he won be able to easily kill people in the sequel

Maybe the sequel will pick up a year later with no sightings of Myers and Laurie still looking and being suspicious and he appears again on Halloween I dunno lol

[Show spoiler]Random pointless killings. Yep. And that is unbelievable because?
that was kind of the point of the scene lol.

[Show spoiler]I just want a satisfactory conclusion to Laurie's character than what was done in Resurrection. The way this one ended, if Michael is still alive what will that do to Laurie's character? She had spent 40 years of preparing along with driving a huge wedge in her relationship with her family in order to face the day that she has her "one-on-one" with Michael.

Personally I want to see her standing over his permanently deceased corpse. I thought we were going to see that watching him burn while still staring at her until he was basically ash.

[Show spoiler]Sure, the gas station had a few customers, but they were probably all sitting in the waiting area glued to their iPhones...using Facebook, making stupid animal ears Snapchat photo filters of themselves, texting, and doing all of the other detached activities that people in any public place do in this current day and age.

When I was in a auto repair shop waiting room two weeks ago, everyone was paying attention to their phones and nothing else. I probably could have had a porn orgy with some women in the middle of the room, and nobody would have noticed.

I could have used a little more with the teens and another one-on-one scene between Laurie and Karen. It’s clear from the B-roll footage and behind-the-scenes photos that there was more footage with the teens at school on the day of the party and also a scene where Laurie visits Karen at work (which Karen did reference in the movie). It would be nice to see this on an extended cut but I’ve learned not to get my hopes up about extended cuts, even when they’re promised (I’m looking at you IT).

[Show spoiler]I can understand that IF it was just a repair shop, but it wasn't. The clerk at the main desk was dead at the desk in plain site.

Fantastic film though.
True but then people would complain about it being to similar. I thought it was scary that no matter how many people are around, Micheal will still do his thing.

The other thing that I hated was,

[Show spoiler]the staging of the police car at Laurie's place. How, and why, did Michael have so much time to place the one cop in the driver's seat with the other cop's head in the first cop's lap with the flashlight in it to make it look like a jack-o-lantern?

One more thing.

[Show spoiler]The whole subplot of Allyson at the Halloween party. Essentially, that was only there to give an explanation as to why she could not be reached on her cellphone.

I guess overall the writing for this was very sloppy.

I agree to an extent, but think that was on purpose - a juxtaposition of sorts. Michael's been locked up for 40 years. The world has changed and so has his neighborhood.

Micheal could've just stolen the car before the kid got back.

This is the way I saw it and how it appears that way when Michael
[Show spoiler]first arrives at night and looks at his old stomping grounds and sees 2018
. I also agree that it seems more creepy in the first, since everyone is isolated. Maybe they can't help to have such a huge celebration in this neighborhood in Haddonfield nowadays.

I didn't too much like
[Show spoiler]the random kills that were reminiscent of H2 at first. However, it seems like he wants to fuel his bloodthirst quickly and those few he catches in isolation are easiest. I thought the girl with the BMW in the driveway was going to get it first...but I think someone came along.

The opening scene was originally going to take place in 1978 but was scrapped due to budget and time constraints. I would've liked to see that.

I dug it. I'd like to see it again soon to really get a feel for it, but it's definitely one of the best sequels. My biggest complaints, like everyone else, were related to the pacing and how certain scenes seemed to be there just to move the plot forward. (Also, what school has a Halloween dance on the actual Halloween night during the middle of the week? All of my school dances were on Friday or Saturday.) Apparently they cut a half hour of footage out for the final cut, so I think the movie could benefit from some of these character-building scenes being put back in.

Tentative ranking for now:
Halloween (1978)
Halloween II (2009; Director's Cut)
Halloween 4
Halloween H20
Halloween (2018)
Halloween III
Halloween II (1981)
Halloween 6 (Theatrical)
Halloween (2007; Director's Cut)
Halloween Resurrection
Halloween 5

Did anyone else find the black Sheriff's cowboy hat distracting and a bit comical?
